Many students experience challenges with emotional regulation, sensory processing, communication, attention, or frustration tolerance. When appropriate regulation tools are available, students are better able to manage those challenges in healthy and productive ways.\r\n\r\nThese tools can help reduce feelings of overwhelm, anxiety, anger, or frustration by giving students a safe outlet to calm their bodies and minds. Items such as sensory fidgets, weighted materials, noise-reduction headphones, visual supports, calming corners, movement breaks, and breathing tools allow students to regain control before behaviors escalate. As students learn to recognize their emotions and use calming strategies independently, they begin building lifelong self-regulation skills.\r\n\r\nThe impact is often seen across the entire school day. Students who are regulated are more available for learning, able to participate in classroom activities, and better equipped to follow directions and interact positively with peers and adults. Self-calming tools can also increase confidence and independence because students begin to understand that they have strategies they can use to help themselves succeed.","fullyFundedDate":1779291249345,"projectUrl":"project/ready-set-regulate-little-tools-big-f/10288260/","projectTitle":"Ready, Set, Regulate Little Tools, Big Feelings","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Foster","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp6508350_orig.jpg?crop=3495,3495,x0,y1246&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1778784813802","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/6508350"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_21222","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":562,"numTeachers":41,"percentFrplEligible":52,"percentAsian":0,"percentBlack":0,"percentWhite":78,"percentIndigenous":14,"percentLatinx":0,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","percentHawaiianImputed":0,"percentMultiracialImputed":5,"gradesServed":"Pre-K - 6","studentTeacherRatio":"13.7:1","demographicsDataSource":"MDR School","equityFocus":true,"titleOne":true,"metroType":"RURAL","ncesMetroType":"RURAL_FRINGE"},"inStateSupporters":39.6,"schoolId":21222,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about Akron Elementary School on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"Akron Elementary School","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/new-york/akron-central-school-district/akron-central-elementary-school/21222"}
