After completing their academic tasks, students are able to engage with their peers in friendly competition or work as a team to accomplish a goal. The Nintendo Switch provides multiple types of sensory input which is necessary for students to regulate their emotions and focus on academics. Many skills can be targeted using the Nintendo Switch including: receptive, expressive and pragmatic language, problem solving, negotiating, positive sportsmanship, independence, fine motor and gross motor skills, vocabulary, following directions, giving directions, etc. At GLC, our students participate in clubs 1-2 Fridays per month. A student selects a club for the first half of the year and then they have the opportunity to switch clubs for the second half of the school year. Club options include: cooking club, gym club, dance club, lego/building club, game club and now Nintendo Switch club. Students have been able to demonstrate some hidden talents through the Nintendo Switch club which has contributed to improved peer relations and peer support/encouragement. It will bring joy for years to come.","fullyFundedDate":1730580283018,"projectUrl":"project/nintendo-switch-for-students-sensory-in/8910703/","projectTitle":"Nintendo Switch for Students' Sensory Input and Mental Health Maintenance","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Lang","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-2_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/9820443"},{"teacherId":9819033,"projectId":8908675,"letterContent":"On behalf of Godfrey Learning Center, I want to extend our deepest gratitude for your generous donation of the new sports equipment. The excitement and joy on our students' faces were absolutely priceless as we opened up the boxes. They couldn't wait to dive in and use everything, and thanks to you, we will be able to do just that.\r\n\r\nOne of the biggest highlights so far has been our pickleball unit. The students have had an absolute blast learning the game, and it has been amazing to see their confidence and skills grow with each lesson. Pickleball has been a perfect addition to our curriculum, providing a fun and engaging way for our students to work on coordination and skill in an inclusive environment. It is an activity they will be able to do throughout life and I was able to teach them how staying active as they get older can be very beneficial for mental and physical health. \r\n\r\nOur next unit will be Yoga thanks to the donation of yoga mats and cards. When setting up with donation I asked each student to dream of an item that they would like to see and be able to use in our classroom. Each student was then able to get an item added onto the list to use within the classroom with the expectation that not only would they be able to use said item but everyone would have the opportunity to do so. \r\n\r\nWith these items I will continue to work with my students on coping strategies to use during a mental health crisis.
