I had spent the day teaching 60+ sophomore students in my AP Biology classes some statistical methods for analyzing changes in population size. Some of the formulas are complex and tedious to enter in their entirety and/or require attention to detail when compiling many smaller components of a larger calculation. Having different students working on different calculators- some their own, some from a browser, and some on simple 4 function calculators that I had as a class set made giving group instruction very challenging- leading to frustration on the students' part as well as my own. \r\n\r\nMy wish was funded quickly by you! I received the calculators before the end of the school year, but had limited opportunity to use them until this fall with the start of the new school year and a new set of students. Thus far, we have been using the class set of calculators for statistical methods- from calculating means to determining percent changes and even learning how to calculate standard error of the mean for graphing data. \r\n\r\nIt has been so pleasant to be able to look at my calculator and know that what they see should be the same. Students can help their neighbors. I can give directions on which key to use for a function. Teaching statistical methods to 15 and 16 year olds still has trials, but the calculators are so helpful! They love having more space to explore, and students enjoy being able to interact with them more easily. As a result of the expanded space, we have also been able to breed our chickens, which has given students hands-on lessons in genetics and reproduction as well as animal growth and development. They have gotten to raise chicks from the day they hatched.
