Your donation has helped create a more organized, accessible, and welcoming learning environment where students can easily access the supplies, tools, and projects they need to succeed.\r\n\r\nFor many of our students, especially those with diverse learning needs, having designated spaces for materials promotes independence, responsibility, and confidence. Students now have a place to safely store their work, personal items, and classroom resources, giving them a greater sense of ownership and pride in their learning environment.\r\n\r\nYour generosity has not only improved the functionality of our classroom but has also demonstrated to our students that their education matters and that there are caring individuals in our community who believe in their success.\r\n\r\nThank you for helping us create a space where students can learn, grow, and thrive. These materials have allowed us to bring learning to life through hands-on, real-world experiences in new ways that connect directly to our students' culture, community, and everyday lives.\r\n\r\nOne of the most meaningful projects we've been working on involves outdoor survival and traditional land-based skills. Using the supplies, students have been learning how to read and navigate with maps even did a scavenger hunt using these skills, build fires from scratch and even learned to use the bow method, properly tie essential knots for activities and feast days we have at the school, and even understand the basics of butchering in a respectful, traditional and practical way. These lessons go far beyond the classroom—they build K'é with everything, confidence, responsibility, and independence especially respecting your tools because everything has its own spirit.\r\n\r\nWhen the students first saw the materials, they were incredibly excited. Many of them immediately started asking questions and sharing stories about times they had gone camping or helped family members outdoors. It sparked a lot of curiosity and pride, especially because these activities reflect skills that are important in their communities and families.\r\n\r\nThe impact has also extended beyond school. Many students have shared that they are now helping their families on camping trips, showing siblings or parents how to tie knots or start fires safely. Families have told us they appreciate seeing their children spending more time learning practical skills and less time on their phones. It has created opportunities for family time and meaningful moments together outdoors.\r\n\r\nThese experiences have also strengthened our students' cultural connections. As Navajo youth, learning these land-based skills helps them understand their relationship with the land and the responsibility that comes with it. Through these lessons, students are beginning to see how everything around them is connected—nature, tradition, family, and community. It has been powerful to watch them grow not only academically but also culturally and spiritually as they learn to appreciate the world around them while also doing offerings for prayer to díyín for good days and to respect what they are given and not take it for granted.\r\n\r\nMoving forward, our next steps are to continue building on these skills through larger outdoor learning projects. Students will apply their map-reading and navigation skills in small team challenges, practice more advanced knot tying and shelter-building, and continue learning about responsible land use and traditional practices. These projects will allow them to deepen the knowledge they've already gained while continuing to grow their confidence and teamwork.\r\n\r\nNone of this would be possible without the generosity of our donors. Your support has created meaningful opportunities for our students to learn in ways that truly matter to them. Thank you for giving our students experiences that connect them to their culture, their families, and the land they call diné bizáád hógan.","fullyFundedDate":1767203007434,"projectUrl":"project/roots-resilience/9957956/","projectTitle":"Roots & Resilience","teacherDisplayName":"Mr. Taylor","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp10383692_orig.jpg?crop=1080,1080,x1078,y0&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1767397275860","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/mr-tayloratdeap"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_109142","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":40,"numTeachers":null,"percentFrplEligible":80,"percentAsian":1,"percentBlack":0,"percentWhite":0,"percentIndigenous":96,"percentLatinx":1,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","percentHawaiianImputed":0,"percentMultiracialImputed":0,"gradesServed":"6 - 10","studentTeacherRatio":null,"demographicsDataSource":"MDR School","equityFocus":true,"titleOne":true,"metroType":"RURAL","ncesMetroType":"RURAL_REMOTE"},"inStateSupporters":16.7,"schoolId":109142,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about Dzil Ditl'Ooi School of Empowerment Action & Perserverance on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"Dzil Ditl'Ooi School of Empowerment Action & Perserverance","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/new-mexico/new-mexico-department-of-education/deap-charter-school/109142"}
