This is part of a larger culminating unit titled, The Last Lecture. After completing each lesson, students completed one page of their senior books. \r\n\r\nThey have creative freedom over the way that they complete the work. Many of them drew their pages while others chose to create them digitally. The work is something that they look forward to saving as a keepsake. \r\n\r\nOverall, the books were powerful. They were thoughtful and projects that students were proud of. The hardcover books made this project so much nicer. They were incredibly excited when we received our boxes full of them. Since receiving the vertical white board and markers, we have done weekly activities to help students problem solve in small groups of 3 students. Each week the students are randomized into groups by giving them a card. Then they work with the students who all got the same card number and are assigned a vertical board to go to based on their card number. Each group is given the same open-ended problem. One student is assigned the job of the scribe. The students work together to problem solve. While the students are working together, I walk around the room and listen to their ideas and observe how they are working together. If they are stuck, I provide guiding questions to help them get on track. \r\nStudents are learning, trying and also having fun with problem solving. They do not mind working in random groups weekly, which I originally thought would be an issue. Even if their math skills are not strong, they are still contributing to their group and listening to what others are thinking. Some students are even arguing respectfully with one another, about the math. Students are growing in their confidence when doing the group problem solving and this has extended to their daily work. They are participating more in class discussions and helping one another. I have enjoyed watching them flourish and become more confident in their math skills. I will continue to use these vertical white boards in all my classes as the years continue. Thank you so much for helping my students begin to see their potential!","fullyFundedDate":1770247025916,"projectUrl":"project/building-thinking-classroom/10071959/","projectTitle":"Building Thinking Classroom","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Lopez-Leger","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-7_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/9672353"},{"teacherId":9893494,"projectId":9590834,"letterContent":"Thanks to your generosity, our classroom is more organized, efficient, and student-centered than ever before. The new organizers hold pencils, markers, glue sticks, and other daily supplies, making materials easily accessible for students throughout each lesson.\r\n\r\nWhen students first saw the organizers, they immediately noticed the difference. They were excited to have a clear, designated place for shared supplies and took pride in helping keep everything neat. Instead of waiting for materials to be passed out, students can now quickly grab what they need and get right to writing, creating, and collaborating.\r\n\r\nThese organizers have also transformed how our class time is used. Because materials are already sorted and accessible, I spend far less time passing out supplies and more time supporting students as writers and thinkers. That extra time allows for deeper discussions, more meaningful feedback, and increased creativity during projects.\r\n\r\nAs we move forward, students will continue using these materials during daily writing workshops, creative projects, and reflective assignments. Your support didn't just provide storage—it created a smoother, more focused learning environment where students can spend more time learning and less time waiting.
