Children can be quite exciting. I am talking about 3, 4 and five-year-olds. We learn so much at this age. It is an inspiring group of families and children to support and work for. Now imagine that some of these children have significant cognitive, social emotional and mobility support needs. A wagon some Velcro and a few other odds and ends may not seem like much to you but for our class it is an absolute game changer. Your donation helps us keep students safe while also teaching them the skills that will help them be successful in kindergarten all the way through high school and into adulthood. Everything starts in early childhood and your gift makes an enormous impact. I've had some students in the past who could walk short distances, but getting all the way across the campus where we would have to go for a fire drill or perhaps going from place to place at a field trip is not something they have the stamina to do yet. Strollers can be an option, but for many students, they don't feel as open and can be a social barrier. With the wagon, your friends can climb in and you can play together and you can safely get from place to place while still feeling like you are a part of your community. Velcro also has a huge impact because as much as we need, to create the picture communication systems requires a lot of of it. I make these systems for my classroom, but I also make them for families to take home and Use. Can you imagine asking your child how their day was and not being able to get a verbal answer? The systems that I build with our speech therapist, thanks to your generous donation of Velcro helps bridge that gap so that children can point to pictures to share about their day. Things that may seem very little to you can make a huge impact for young children. And for their families.
