Your kindness has made a truly meaningful difference in our classroom.\r\n\r\nThe hats and gloves ensure that my students arrive to school warm and comfortable, ready to focus — because no child can concentrate when they're shivering from the cold. The umbrellas mean that students no longer have to walk into class soaking wet, which not only affects their comfort but their ability to settle in and engage with learning.\r\n\r\nThe additional supplies, such as lotion, sanitary pads, and lip balm address personal care needs that students might otherwise go without. When students feel clean, comfortable, and cared for, their confidence and dignity are protected — and that matters enormously to how they show up in the classroom.\r\n\r\nThe snacks have been a game-changer. Hunger is one of the greatest barriers to learning, and having nourishment available means students can stay focused, energized, and attentive throughout the school day rather than being distracted by an empty stomach.\r\n\r\nFinally, the highlighters and pencils give my students the tools they need to actively participate in their education. Something as simple as having a pencil can be the difference between a student engaging fully or feeling left behind.\r\n\r\nBecause of your generosity, my students feel seen, supported, and cared for — and that foundation makes all the difference in their ability to learn and thrive. They helped to remove invisible barriers that often stand between a student and their full potential. \r\n\r\nIn a classroom where over three-quarters of the students come from low-income households, the \"extras\" are often essentials. Because of your kindness, students who once braved the cold walk to school without gear were able to use the hats and gloves and arrived focused and ready, rather than shivering and unfocused. By providing snacks and personal items, you've ensured that hunger and self-consciousness could not drown out the daily teachings. \r\n\r\nMy students have become active processors using highlighters, pens and colored pencils; helping them become organized in class and in their homework. \r\n\r\nFurthermore, the math art and hygiene supplies have helped humanize our classroom making it a safe, clean and vibrant space for growth. \r\n\r\nYou have truly helped me build a classroom where students feel seen, supported and capable. With these new resources, I have been able to create vibrant, welcoming bulletin boards that showcase student work and support instruction. For example, in my English I Honors class, students recently completed a lesson connected to Other Wes Moore. They analyzed selected quotes by identifying the speaker and using context clues to justify their thinking. These quotes were displayed on the bulletin boards using the materials you provided, turning our walls into an interactive learning space. Afterward, students used their journals to reflect on their thinking process, deepening their critical analysis and personal connections to the text. In my Creative Writing class, the clips you donated were used to display student-created comic strips, allowing students to proudly share their work with peers.\r\n\r\nWhen students first saw the new materials, their excitement was immediate. They were eager to help decorate the bulletin boards and took great pride in seeing their work displayed. The journals were especially well-received. Students were excited to have a personal space for both formal and informal writing, and many expressed that it made their work feel more meaningful and \"real.\"\r\n\r\nLooking ahead, students will continue using their journals throughout the year for reflective writing, literary analysis, and creative expression. They are currently building on their work with Other Wes Moore by exploring themes and making deeper text-to-self and text-to-world connections. The bulletin boards will continue to evolve alongside our lessons, serving as a living display of student learning. At the end of the year, students will take their journals home as a collection of their growth and achievements. Additionally, the reusable bulletin board materials will allow me to maintain an engaging and dynamic classroom environment for future classes as well.","fullyFundedDate":1769308369004,"projectUrl":"project/intentional-classrooms/10052450/","projectTitle":"Intentional Classrooms","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Cope","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-7_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/10416092"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_74667","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":662,"numTeachers":52,"percentFrplEligible":81,"percentAsian":4,"percentBlack":16,"percentWhite":4,"percentIndigenous":0,"percentLatinx":74,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","percentHawaiianImputed":0,"percentMultiracialImputed":0,"gradesServed":"9 - 12","studentTeacherRatio":"12.7:1","demographicsDataSource":"MDR School","equityFocus":true,"titleOne":true,"metroType":"SUBURBAN","ncesMetroType":"SUBURB_LARGE"},"inStateSupporters":63.5,"schoolId":74667,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about International High School on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"International High School","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/new-jersey/paterson-public-schools/international-high-school/74667"}
