The moment my students saw the colorful library filled with books, their eyes lit up. Many crowded around it, whispering excitedly, \"Can we really take one home?\" For some of them, this was their very first time having easy access to a book outside of the classroom.\r\n\r\nWe use the Free Little Library every day to encourage a love of reading beyond school hours. Students proudly swap books, recommend their favorites to classmates, and even bring family members over during dismissal to show them the library. One of the sweetest moments happened when a student who usually struggles to stay engaged in class found a book about dinosaurs, his favorite topic. He hugged it close and said, \"This one is mine for tonight!\" That joy is exactly what we hoped to create—reading becoming a personal and exciting choice.\r\n\r\nOur next steps are to keep the Free Little Library stocked and organized so that it continues to thrive as a community resource. Students are also working on creating \"book recommendation cards\" to place inside the library, helping their peers discover new favorites. As we move into our upcoming lessons on storytelling and author's craft, I'm excited to see how students will make connections between the books they choose from the library and the writing they create in class.\r\n\r\nYour generosity has not just provided books—it has built a bridge between school, home, and our wider community. Because of you, students are reading more, sharing more, and feeling proud to be part of something bigger than themselves. These resources have quickly become a centerpiece in our classroom learning routines.\r\n\r\nOne of the first times we used them was during our UFLI phonics block. Each student received their own dry erase board to practice letter sounds, build words, and practice encoding and decoding. The excitement on their faces was priceless—students were literally asking, \"Can we do more?\" The boards gave them the freedom to try, make mistakes, and try again without fear. For many of my English Language Learners, this has been especially empowering, because they can practice sounds and words in real time with immediate feedback.\r\n\r\nDuring math, the boards have also transformed our lessons into interactive problem-solving sessions. Instead of working quietly on paper, my students hold up their boards to show their thinking. This has made it easier for me to check for understanding quickly and has encouraged even my shyest learners to participate. One of my favorite moments was during a fractions review, when the whole class proudly held up their solutions at once—creating a wave of learning across the room!\r\n\r\nOur next steps are to continue using the dry erase tools in small groups and partner work. We're beginning a new unit on word patterns, and students will use their boards to practice blending, segmenting, and writing new words during UFLI. These tools will also play a big role in upcoming math centers, where students can solve challenges collaboratively.\r\n\r\nYour support has brought a new level of energy and confidence into my classroom.
