Because of your kindness, my 6th grade ELA students now have access to a wonderful collection of fiction and chapter books — and the impact has been truly heartwarming to witness.\r\n\r\nReading in our classroom is a rich, dynamic experience. Students engage with texts through book clubs, small group discussions, independent reading, and whole class conversations. These new books have given students the opportunity to immerse themselves in compelling stories while developing essential literary skills. As they read, students explore characterization — analyzing how authors build complex, relatable characters — and examine how setting shapes mood and plot. They dig into conflict to understand what drives a story forward, and they practice identifying theme to uncover the deeper messages authors want readers to take away. We also spend time looking at author's craft, helping students appreciate the intentional choices writers make and inspiring them to apply those same techniques in their own writing.\r\n\r\nHaving fresh, engaging books in students' hands makes all the difference. When a story genuinely captures a reader's interest, skills that once felt like a chore become natural and exciting. Thanks to your generosity, my students are not just reading — they are thinking critically, discussing meaningfully, and growing as both readers and thinkers. I am so grateful for your investment in their love of literature.\r\n\r\nWith heartfelt thanks,\r\nMrs. Soliman\r\n6th Grade ELA","fullyFundedDate":1777978004007,"projectUrl":"project/falling-in-love-with-books/10238530/","projectTitle":"Falling in Love with Books","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Soliman","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp10290950_orig.jpg?crop=1:1,smart&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1758990620991","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/10290950"},{"teacherId":10290950,"projectId":9767954,"letterContent":"Thank you so much for supporting my classroom and helping expand our graphic novel collection. While many people love reading books, these new texts also serve as powerful teaching tools in my sixth-grade ELA classroom.\r\n\r\nThe graphic novels introduce and reinforce key literacy skills such as making inferences, analyzing character development, understanding theme, and using text evidence. Because students must interpret both visuals and dialogue, they strengthen comprehension skills and learn how images and words work together to convey meaning.\r\n\r\nReading in my classroom is active and student-centered. Students have choice in what they read, time to read independently, and opportunities to discuss their books with peers. These graphic novels have increased engagement during reading time—students are focused, eager, and excited to share what they are reading.\r\n\r\nSeveral reluctant readers have especially benefited from the new books. Students who previously struggled to finish a chapter book are now completing entire graphic novels and proudly recommending them to classmates. One student shared, \"I finally found a book I like,\" which has been incredibly rewarding to hear.\r\n\r\nThank you for making reading more accessible, engaging, and joyful for my students.
