Its stories helped students imagine themselves as future scientists. Children who once loved drawing became chemists, zoologists, and experts in animal behavior. Young athletes became astronauts, engineers, and researchers. We have read A Stone is a Story and enjoy matching our rock pillows with illustrations from the book. We also read One Day This Tree will Fall and talk about how our stumps will one day fall as well.\r\n\r\nThese resources make our classroom feel authentic and comfortable. Then they were able to think about their own life and the different paths that have led us all to the same classroom.\r\n\r\nThe\"realistic fiction\" genre that this book uses, allowed students to make a direct connection between their life and the life of rocks.
