The adjustable standing desk has helped make that possible by giving students a dedicated space to present their work, share research, analyze historical sources, collaborate with classmates, and participate in classroom discussions. It has become a useful addition to a classroom where students regularly move between individual work, group activities, presentations, and discussions. More importantly, it provides students with another opportunity to take ownership of the classroom and their learning. When students stand in front of their classmates to explain an idea, defend an interpretation, or present something they have created, they are developing skills that extend far beyond U.S. History. They are learning how to communicate, think critically, and become more confident in their own abilities.\r\n\r\nThe 500 pre-sharpened pencils included in this project have also made an immediate difference. A pencil may seem like a small item, but having basic supplies readily available eliminates one more obstacle that can prevent a student from participating in class. If a student arrives without a pencil, I can simply hand them one and allow them to get started rather than losing valuable instructional time. My students come to school with different circumstances, needs, and challenges, and I want my classroom to be a place where every student has access to the tools necessary to succeed. Having these supplies available allows us to focus our attention on learning rather than worrying about whether a student has everything they need that particular day. Combined with the standing desk, these resources help me maintain a classroom that is flexible, welcoming, and focused on student participation.\r\n\r\nWhat makes your support especially meaningful is that the impact of this project will continue well beyond this school year. The standing desk is a resource that will be used by students year after year, meaning that many future classes will benefit from your generosity. The combination of words and illustrations gives my students additional context to help them understand these concepts and tackle stories that might otherwise feel overwhelming.\r\n\r\nReading looks a little different in our classroom because my students have a wide range of reading abilities. Sometimes we read together, sometimes students listen while following along, and sometimes they read independently or with support. Graphic novels have given us another way to meet students where they are without sacrificing interesting, age-appropriate stories.\r\n\r\nOne of the most exciting changes has been seeing students voluntarily choose these books. Some of my students who are reluctant readers have discovered that they genuinely enjoy graphic novels and will pick one up during independent time without being prompted. They talk about the characters, show each other interesting pages, and ask about other books they can read next.
