Our school is an urban school district that has had a huge growth in our music program the past few years. I believe that students being exposed to the discipline and creative outlet music offers has led to the improvement of our our school culture and education. The band program had 12 students when I began and is currently at 80 students. Our marching band had 25 and is now approaching 200 students! Students have been receiving marching band scholarships and performing at venues along the east coast. Since the band program has grown, discipline and pride within the school has grown. There is something other than football to talk about now in our school and I would like to continue to push the limits on how to reach and teach my students.
