Many families are familiar with technology at home, but in our classroom, the camera is used as a learning tool to strengthen student ownership, reflection, and community. We use the instant photos to capture moments of teamwork, highlight achievement in academics and behavior, and support writing activities where students describe, reflect on, or sequence events. Having a tangible picture in their hands helps students connect more deeply with the learning experience, and it reinforces our focus on building a positive, student-centered environment.\r\n\r\nWhat excites the students most is the instant magic of seeing their hard work \"come to life\" on film. There is something special about watching the picture develop right in front of them—it makes the moment feel important and encourages students to take pride in what they're doing. We've used the photos for goal-setting walls, \"scientist of the week\" spotlights, and documenting long-term projects like our pumpkin decomposition observation. Students love seeing themselves as active learners, helpers, and leaders.\r\n\r\nSeveral students, in particular, have really connected with this technology. Some of my quieter or more hesitant students light up when they're photographed for meeting a goal or showing kindness, and it gives them a boost of confidence that carries into the rest of the day. Others who struggle with engagement are especially motivated by knowing their effort may be captured and celebrated. The Polaroid camera has become more than just a fun tool—it has helped strengthen our classroom community, encourage student growth, and make learning feel joyful and memorable.","fullyFundedDate":1756314904075,"projectUrl":"project/through-our-lens-3rd-grade-memories/9456274/","projectTitle":"Through Our Lens: 3rd Grade Memories","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Norton","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp9208873_orig.jpg?crop=600,600,x648,y432&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1692583645095","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/9208873"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_80086","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":66,"numTeachers":6,"percentFrplEligible":29,"percentAsian":0,"percentBlack":3,"percentWhite":94,"percentIndigenous":0,"percentLatinx":1,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","gradesServed":"K - 5","studentTeacherRatio":"11.0:1","demographicsDataSource":"MDR School","equityFocus":false,"titleOne":false,"metroType":"RURAL","ncesMetroType":"RURAL_DISTANT"},"inStateSupporters":66.7,"schoolId":80086,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about Danbury Elementary School on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"Danbury Elementary School","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/new-hampshire/school-administrative-unit-4/danbury-elementary-school/80086"}
