These items are already bringing so much joy and excitement to our students while also supporting their development in creativity, social skills, problem-solving, and imaginative play.\r\n\r\nIn early childhood education, hands-on materials like these are essential. The sensory materials have had a huge impact on the students' diverse abilities. The students were surprised and excited to explore the materials when the boxes arrived at the school. Each one wanted to try out the kitchen cooking set, especially cracking the eggs and using fine motor skills to cut the food in half. They wanted to build the road and drive the cars over it again and again. They were happy to explore the letters, numbers, and animals magnet sorting and matching centers. The sensory touch/feel mats have been great for helping students calm down when they are upset or frustrated. The wobble disk and wobble stool have helped students regulate their bodies and sit in a chair to attend to their tasks. The materials have provided so much help to the students, including learning skills, engaging in pretend play, and having ways to help self-regulate their behaviors and emotions. \r\nThanks to your donations, the students have the materials to learn the skills and help regulate themselves. The next step is to teach the students how to use sensory materials to help them calm down, regulate emotions and body awareness, and attend to learning new tasks. Thanks to your donations of these materials, the students now have more tools in their toolboxes for positive learning and calming-down strategies.","fullyFundedDate":1768714702213,"projectUrl":"project/learning-through-sensory/10032575/","projectTitle":"Learning through Sensory","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Linney","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-8_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/8189135"},{"teacherId":8813989,"projectId":10042986,"letterContent":"I want to thank you for your generous donation to help fund my multisensory phonics lessons. My students are using the magnetic tile boards, mirrors, and magnetic wands to learn specific phonics sounds. Before, students wrote words in sand, which worked well, but it was hard for me to see what they were writing. With the magnetic boards, I can easily check their spelling for mistakes and have them fix them right away.\r\n\r\nThe mirrors have also been very helpful, especially for students who were mixing up the short vowel sounds /e/ and /i/. Being able to watch how their mouths form the sounds has helped correct those mistakes. The magnetic boards have been a big hit. Students love using the sound tiles to build words and then writing on the boards afterward. One student even started calling it her \"phonics suitcase,\" and the name has stuck.\r\n\r\nThe new phonics manipulatives have greatly increased my students' engagement during phonics lessons, and I truly appreciate your support.","fullyFundedDate":1768866153171,"projectUrl":"project/a-multisensory-learning-approach-to-teac/10042986/","projectTitle":"A Multisensory Learning Approach to Teaching Phonics and Reading","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Meseberg","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-5_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/8813989"},{"teacherId":8125454,"projectId":10024255,"letterContent":"Thank you again for your generosity in supporting our updated technology project. The new iPad allows me to provide more individualized and engaging instruction, especially for students who benefit from visual supports, interactive activities, and immediate feedback. It enables quick downloads and reliable access to apps, which means lessons and assessments can run smoothly without interruptions. This helps make learning more accessible by giving students multiple ways to practice skills like speech, language, and comprehension, while also allowing me to monitor their progress more effectively and adjust instruction to meet their needs.\r\n\r\nOne of the most exciting parts for my students is how interactive and motivating the technology is. They love being able to actively participate- touching, responding, and engaging with lessons in a hands-on way. It has been especially meaningful to see students who were previously hesitant or easily distracted become more engaged and willing to participate.\r\n\r\nI have also seen a noticeable difference in students who need extra support with communication and confidence. Some of my more reserved students are now more willing to take risks and share their ideas because the technology provides a supportive and less intimidating way to respond. Others who rely on visual and auditory supports are showing improved understanding and independence. Your support is helping create a learning environment where all students can access success, and I am incredibly grateful for the opportunities this provides. One of our favorite moments was when students eagerly explored the materials for the first time—sorting sounds, building words, and proudly reading them aloud to their peers. Their excitement and confidence were immediate, and many asked to use the tools again during free reading time.\r\n\r\nThese resources have made phonics instruction more engaging and accessible, especially for students who learn best by doing. By manipulating letters and sounds, students are strengthening decoding skills, improving fluency, and developing a deeper understanding of word patterns in a fun, meaningful way.\r\n\r\nNext, students will continue applying these phonics skills to reading and writing activities, using what they've learned to tackle new texts with confidence. My first graders now choose spots that help them focus—whether it's a wobble stool for movement, a floor cushion for cozy reading, or a low table for partner work.\r\n\r\nOne of my favorite moments happened during our \"Life Cycles\" writing project. Students spread out around the room, selecting seats that helped them do their best thinking. I watched reluctant writers settle into their chosen spots and write for longer than they ever had before. The room felt calm, productive, and full of creativity.\r\n\r\nThe excitement was incredible! The moment the students walked in and saw the new seating, their faces lit up. Many of them gasped, and a few even clapped. They immediately started exploring each type of seat, testing them out, and talking about which ones would help them learn best. They couldn't believe these were \"for us!\"\r\n\r\nRight now, we're continuing our writing and literacy projects, and the flexible-seating choices help students take more ownership of their learning. Our next step is teaching them how to reflect on which seating option works best for different tasks—reading, writing, partner work, or independent practice. We will also be starting a collaborative research project soon, where students rotate through learning stations. The new seating will support smoother movement, better focus, and more independence as they learn to work in small groups.","fullyFundedDate":1761499906629,"projectUrl":"project/flexible-fun-seating-for-firsties/9792972/","projectTitle":"Flexible Fun Seating for Firsties!","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Baker","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp8108258_orig.jpg?crop=2320,2320,x0,y386&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1633883448000","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/8108258"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_49077","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":366,"numTeachers":26,"percentFrplEligible":12,"percentAsian":8,"percentBlack":0,"percentWhite":71,"percentIndigenous":0,"percentLatinx":13,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","gradesServed":"Pre-K - 5","studentTeacherRatio":"14.1:1","demographicsDataSource":"MDR School","equityFocus":false,"titleOne":false,"metroType":"SUBURBAN","ncesMetroType":"SUBURB_LARGE"},"inStateSupporters":81.4,"schoolId":49077,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about Elizabeth Lenz Elementary School on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"Elizabeth Lenz Elementary School","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/nevada/washoe-county-school-district/elizabeth-lenz-elementary-school/49077"}
