Also my Financial math students use these calculators on a daily basis for all their formulas and calculations. My students are so grateful to be able to use the advanced calculators. We used them yesterday for an activity that was powerful in student learning. The students split into groups of 2 or 3 and used the measuring tapes to measure one group member. Then we went outside to measure the shadow of the same student. It was a bit chilly, but it was sunny, and the shadows were long (almost exactly twice as long as the person!). We then had 3 groups work together to measure the shadow of the flagpole. When we got back to the classroom, we set up a proportion to figure out how tall the flagpole is. I plan to refer back to this activity throughout the next month as we learn more about similar figures and their proportions.\r\n\r\nThis activity gave my students a new way to think about proportions.
