They have been using transparent figurines, letters, numbers, and natural items to create scenes and narrate their own stories. Through this imaginative play, students are actively developing their narrative thinking, language, and communication skills in a meaningful, play-based context.\r\nIn addition to storytelling, students have begun using the transparent letters and numbers to spell their names and engage in early numeracy activities such as counting and number recognition. These tactile, hands-on experiences are supporting foundational literacy and math development in a highly engaging and visually stimulating way.\r\nThe students' initial reaction to the new materials was one of excitement and curiosity. They were particularly captivated by the Playstix, building blocks, and the glowing effect of the transparent bugs on the light table. Their enthusiastic response has led to increased engagement and extended periods of focused, purposeful play.\r\nNext Steps\r\nMoving forward, I plan to extend student learning by:\r\nEncouraging the use of transparent letters to spell simple, high-frequency words.\r\nSupporting students in using the numbers to practice sequencing and number order.\r\nIntroducing the light-up activity center as a space for students to create original artwork, fostering further opportunities for self-expression and creativity.\r\nThese next steps will continue to build on the students' enthusiasm while deepening their literacy, numeracy, and artistic development through play-based learning.","fullyFundedDate":1742354549264,"projectUrl":"project/learning-at-the-light-table/9131565/","projectTitle":"Learning at the Light Table","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Palmer","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-8_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/9931694"},{"teacherId":9931694,"projectId":9130630,"letterContent":"Students have been actively engaging with shape-based file folder games, Chutes and Ladders, and other math-related activities that support early cognitive and social development.Students are using the shape file folder games to match, sort, and identify various shapes. These activities are reinforcing key skills such as:\r\nshape recognition, visual discrimination, spatial awareness, independent work habits\r\nThese games allow students to work at their own pace while building foundational geometry skills in a hands-on, engaging format. Chutes and Ladders has been an effective tool for developing early numeracy and social skills. Through gameplay, students are practicing: counting and one-to-one correspondence, number order and directionality and turn-taking and cooperative play. Students demonstrate an understanding of game rules and show growing independence in navigating the game without direct teacher support.\r\n\r\nStudents have enjoyed participating in these activities during both whole group sessions and small group play with peers. Many students are now independently accessing and initiating gameplay, demonstrating confidence and ownership of their learning. They loved all the material so far and were excited to use everything!\r\n\r\nTo build on this strong engagement and extend learning, I plan to:\r\nIntroduce more complex file folder games that incorporate shapes with patterns or early number concepts. Implement team-based Bingo activities to encourage cooperative problem-solving and peer interaction. Use Chutes and Ladders as a platform to introduce simple addition and subtraction through the use of number dice.\r\nThese next steps will continue to support critical early learning goals, while fostering independence, collaboration, and a strong classroom community.","fullyFundedDate":1742354404859,"projectUrl":"project/shape-up-and-crunch-some-numbers/9130630/","projectTitle":"Shape Up and Crunch Some Numbers","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Palmer","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-8_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/9931694"},{"teacherId":8170875,"projectId":9287976,"letterContent":"Thank you so much for your generous support!
