Having non-fiction texts for my high school students that are interesting and engaging is critical for their success in reading and analyzing. For one, my students were able to think critically about real historical events. Using historical true crime placed students in early America and gave them a perspective into the mind of a real person. This makes the text more relatable and holds their attention. My students were able to take historical events, organize them chronologically, and then analyze them as though they were detectives at the scene. \r\n\r\nIn my classroom, reading is interactive and, thanks to the set of non-fiction texts, highly engaging. My students read to ask questions, analyze, and discuss events. We read together to assist each other with unknown vocabulary, understand others' points of view, and learn how to listen to each other. \r\n\r\nI can confidently say that almost all of my students enjoyed the new books. It was a welcome departure from our standard literary readings. For this reason, I felt my students were more dedicated to their learning and outcomes. They looked forward to reading each day. My students and I are grateful for your generous donation and dedication to education.
