Many of my students are still learning how to identify and manage big emotions, and the social-emotional learning tools included in this project provided concrete, hands-on ways for students to express feelings, practice calming strategies, and make positive choices. Items such as the emotional awareness activities, feelings-based manipulatives, and SEL matching resources became an essential part of our daily routines and calming corner, allowing students to safely regulate emotions and return to learning more quickly. As a result, students demonstrated increased emotional vocabulary, improved peer interactions, and greater confidence in problem-solving situations. These resources helped create a classroom environment where students feel supported, understood, and ready to learn.\r\n\r\nThe academic materials significantly strengthened early literacy, math, and fine motor skills through hands-on, developmentally appropriate learning experiences. Alphabet tracing tiles, interactive pocket charts, puzzles, and light table materials supported letter recognition, phonemic awareness, and early writing readiness while keeping students actively engaged. Math manipulatives and counting tools encouraged number recognition, patterning, and problem solving through play-based learning. The light table resources and sensory-based materials were especially impactful for students who benefit from visual and tactile instruction, including those with diverse learning needs. Students who previously struggled to remain focused or participate in structured activities showed increased engagement, longer attention spans, and pride in their accomplishments. These materials enabled differentiated instruction and made it accessible to all learners.\r\n\r\nClassroom tools such as help-yourself pitchers, durable art supplies, and high-quality books promoted independence, responsibility, and language development. Students practiced essential life skills such as pouring, sharing materials, and cleaning up, building confidence and self-sufficiency throughout the day. Art materials strengthened fine motor development and allowed students to creatively express their thoughts and emotions, while seasonal and social-themed books enriched vocabulary, comprehension, and classroom discussions. Because of this project, my classroom has become a more inclusive, engaging, and supportive learning environment where students feel safe to explore, communicate, and grow. These materials will continue to benefit future preschoolers by laying a strong foundation for academic success, emotional well-being, and a positive relationship with school.","fullyFundedDate":1768617882950,"projectUrl":"project/hands-on-learning-for-growing-minds/10012163/","projectTitle":"Hands-On Learning for Growing Minds","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Keene","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp7797818_orig.jpg?crop=2190,2190,x1464,y403&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1620699539137","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/7797818"},{"teacherId":8122658,"projectId":8027201,"letterContent":"I am incredibly thankful for your generosity and for choosing to support my classroom. Because of you, my students now have flexible seating that allows them to learn in ways that feel natural, comfortable, and supportive. This change has made a meaningful difference in how students experience their day and how they show up as learners.\r\n\r\nFlexible seating has helped my classroom become a space where students feel trusted and respected. Instead of being told exactly where and how to sit, students are given the opportunity to make choices that help them focus and succeed. Some students work best while gently moving, others prefer a quiet floor space, and some need a sturdy table to spread out their materials. Having these options allows every student to find what works best for them.\r\n\r\nSince introducing flexible seating, I have noticed stronger engagement and longer attention spans. Students are better able to stay on task and complete their work with fewer distractions. Lessons run more smoothly because students are physically comfortable and mentally ready to learn. This has allowed me to spend more time teaching and connecting with students rather than redirecting behavior.\r\n\r\nThe impact goes beyond academics. Many students feel more relaxed and confident in the classroom. Flexible seating has created an environment that feels safe and welcoming, especially for students who struggle with anxiety, restlessness, or sensory needs. When students feel comfortable, they are more willing to participate, take risks, and share their thinking with others.\r\n\r\nThis seating has also encouraged collaboration and problem-solving. Students naturally gather in small groups, discuss ideas, and help one another. Learning feels more social and engaging, and students are building important skills such as communication, cooperation, and respect. These are skills they will carry with them long after they leave my classroom.\r\n\r\nOne of the most meaningful moments was explaining to my students that their flexible seating was made possible by generous donors. They were excited and genuinely appreciative. Knowing that people outside our classroom care about their learning and well-being has made them feel valued and supported. That sense of encouragement has had a powerful effect on their motivation and attitude.\r\n\r\nThank you for making this possible. Your support has transformed my classroom into a place where students can move, choose, and learn in ways that meet their individual needs. Every focused lesson, thoughtful choice, and positive learning experience is a reflection of your kindness. My students and I are deeply grateful for the impact you have made and for investing in their success.","fullyFundedDate":1699933846141,"projectUrl":"project/comfy-seats-happy-productive-kids/8027201/","projectTitle":"Comfy Seats = Happy Productive Kids!","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Petersen","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp8122658_orig.jpg?crop=3009,3009,x0,y0&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1634596904738","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/8122658"},{"teacherId":9353037,"projectId":9204755,"letterContent":"I hope this letter finds you well. I am writing on behalf of the students and staff at Caliente Elementary School to express our heartfelt gratitude for your generous donation of Tonie characters. Your support has made a significant impact on our classroom environment and has been a wonderful addition to our educational toolkit.\r\n\r\nSince incorporating the Tonie characters into our classroom centers, we have observed a remarkable enhancement in student engagement and learning. The variety of characters you provided has allowed us to create diverse and dynamic learning experiences that cater to various interests and learning styles. Each character brings its own unique story and educational content, sparking curiosity and imagination among our students.\r\n\r\nThe Wild Kratts Tonie and the StoryBots Tonie have quickly become favorites among our students. They are not only entertaining but also educational, providing a fun and interactive way for students to explore topics such as wildlife and science. Each time students engage with these characters, they embark on an adventure that enriches their knowledge and understanding of the world around them. The interactive nature of the Tonies encourages students to ask questions, seek answers, and think critically, which are essential skills for their academic and personal growth.\r\n\r\nMoreover, the Tonie characters have proven to be an invaluable resource in our efforts to support students who experience emotional challenges. We have integrated the Tonies into our calming corner, a safe space where students can go when they feel overwhelmed or need a break. The soothing voices and engaging stories of the Tonie characters provide a comforting presence that helps de-escalate students' emotions. This has been particularly beneficial for students who struggle with anxiety or have difficulty regulating their emotions, allowing them to return to their academic tasks with a clearer mind and renewed focus.\r\n\r\nYour donation has not only enriched our educational resources but has also contributed to a more inclusive and supportive learning environment. The ability to offer such a wide range of characters means that every student can find something that resonates with them personally, fostering a sense of belonging and inclusion within our classroom community.\r\n\r\nOnce again, thank you for your generosity and for believing in the potential of our students. Your support has made a meaningful difference in their educational journey and emotional well-being. We are incredibly grateful for your contribution and look forward to continuing to integrate these wonderful educational tools into our everyday learning experiences.","fullyFundedDate":1742846875123,"projectUrl":"project/tonie-characters/9204755/","projectTitle":"Tonie Characters","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Frehner","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-9_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/9353037"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_83039","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":87,"numTeachers":10,"percentFrplEligible":51,"percentAsian":1,"percentBlack":0,"percentWhite":92,"percentIndigenous":0,"percentLatinx":6,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","gradesServed":"Pre-K - 6","studentTeacherRatio":"8.7:1","demographicsDataSource":"MDR School","equityFocus":true,"titleOne":true,"metroType":"RURAL","ncesMetroType":"RURAL_REMOTE"},"inStateSupporters":51.4,"schoolId":83039,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about Caliente Elementary School on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"Caliente Elementary School","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/nevada/lincoln-public-schools/caliente-elementary-school/83039"}
