When the books and resources arrived, our classroom came alive in ways we haven't experienced before. The excitement was immediate—students were holding The Giver in their hands, many for the first time owning their own copy of a novel. That simple act of having quality materials sent a powerful message: their education matters, and they deserve resources that engage and challenge them.\r\n\r\nWe've woven The Giver into our curriculum in ways that connect reading directly to their own lives. As students explore Jonas's world and the Community's control over individuality, they're beginning to understand what it means to be unique themselves. They see their own individual strengths, perspectives, and differences reflected in the story's themes. The connection is natural and powerful—suddenly, concepts like conformity and choice aren't just plot points; they're personal.\r\n\r\nWhat strikes me most is how included our students feel. They're participating in discussions without fear, asking deeper questions, and seeing themselves reflected in the curriculum. The hands-on science activities have made abstract concepts concrete, and The Giver has given them a lens to think about why those concepts matter in the real world. Our classroom culture has shifted—there's genuine curiosity and engagement that wasn't there before.\r\n\r\nYour generosity has shown our students that they are valued and that their learning is a priority. That belief in them is transforming how they see themselves as learners.","fullyFundedDate":1768681833701,"projectUrl":"project/empower-diverse-learners-headphones-gr/10028257/","projectTitle":"Empower Diverse Learners: Headphones, Graphic Novels & Hands‑On Science","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Koeppen","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-3_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/10406184"},{"teacherId":9367188,"projectId":9992872,"letterContent":"Thank you again for your donation of graphing calculators and testing dividers. It is great to have these giving opportunities available to teachers to improve their classroom when budgets are becoming more and more restrictive. By having just a few graphing calculators and testing dividers for privacy during assessments, students are utilizing different strategies to improve their level of understanding.\r\n\r\nStudents are using the TI-84 Graphing Calculators as tools to advance their understanding with the different mathematical concepts in class. These calculators are allowing students to see the importance of how programing, entering correct instructions, these calculators are tools compared to a device that just does the math for you. Then when it comes time for students to demonstrate their level of understanding, the testing dividers have given them a sense of security and privacy. \r\n\r\nTherefore, thank you for the giving my students tools to help improve their level of understanding.","fullyFundedDate":1768167396976,"projectUrl":"project/classroom-enhancements-with-technology-a/9992872/","projectTitle":"Classroom Enhancements with Technology and Security","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Young","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-5_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/9367188"},{"teacherId":9481330,"projectId":9995444,"letterContent":"Thank you so much! \r\nThe Dry Erase Markers have been put to good use, the students really appreciate the new, juicy markers...our old ones were getting pretty dried out! It smells like spicy jalapeños\r\n\r\nLastly, the biggest impact has been the new Spanish books added to our classroom library. We begin each class silently reading a self-selected book. In order for a successful \"free reading\" program to work, students need to have lots of book choices, at many different reading levels about different topics of interest. We ended 1st semester with a Build It Project thanks to you. \r\nStudents loved working hands-on with a partner to build a wooden vehicle: train, racecar, or rover. Many of my students had never had to make sense of complex step by step instructions, and very few (only 2) had ever built anything like the structures they created in this project. What a great opportunity for these kids!\r\nSeveral groups had to troubleshoot a broken piece, or pieces that 'didn't fit.' I was proud of their creative approaches to troubleshooting, using resources we had on hand. Students showed perseverance, teamwork and effective communication. They experienced moments of confusion and frustration, along with aha moments, clarity after re-reading carefully, and the satisfaction of implementing creative solutions to broken parts or mistakes. All students reported that they really enjoyed this project and appreciated the practical value of effective communication, teamwork, and problem-solving.","fullyFundedDate":1760406381819,"projectUrl":"project/building-cars-and-rovers-teamwork-comm/9615924/","projectTitle":"Building Cars and Rovers: Teamwork, Communication, and Problem-solving in Action!","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Ensign","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-3_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/1908284"},{"teacherId":10409088,"projectId":10033885,"letterContent":"Thank you for helping my students' Business Plan project come to life! The materials have allowed us to incorporate more hands-on activities, collaborative work, and structured organization into our classroom routines. One memorable moment was watching students confidently jump into a group activity without needing to borrow or go without supplies, something that immediately set a positive tone and increased participation across the room.\r\n\r\nWhen the students first saw the materials, their excitement was genuine. Several students commented on how \"cute and home like\" the classroom felt, and others expressed appreciation for having access to supplies they don't always have at home. One student shared, \"It feels like we're actually ready to learn every day now, and no one has to feel left out by asking to borrow materials.\" These resources helped students feel valued and supported, which directly translated into higher engagement, better focus, and more meaningful discussions during lessons.\r\n\r\nLooking ahead, students are continuing to use these materials as we move into more complex lessons that require collaboration, critical thinking, and independence.
