When the students first saw the materials unboxed, their eyes lit up with excitement. Knowing these items were dedicated specifically to helping them destress made them feel valued, understood, and cared for by people beyond our school walls.\r\n\r\nThe impact was noticeable almost right away, particularly for students who navigate emotional regulation challenges. During a recent high-energy group project, one of my students began feeling overwhelmed by the noise and sensory input. Instead of escalating into frustration, they were able to quietly transition to our new dedicated calm-down corner, select a tactile sensory tool, and take five minutes to self-regulate. That brief period of calm allowed them to rejoin their peers smoothly and finish the assignment successfully—a moment that previously might have resulted in a lost afternoon of learning.\r\n\r\nNext Steps for Our Classroom\r\n\r\nIntegrating Mindful Breaks: We are incorporating these resources into our daily routines, teaching students how to identify their emotional thresholds and proactively use the destress tools before anxiety spikes.\r\n\r\nStudent Reflection Journals: Students are beginning a mini-project where they reflect on which specific sensory strategies help them focus best, building self-awareness and lifelong emotional management skills.\r\n\r\nPeer Support & Collaboration: As students gain confidence using these tools independently, we are pairing them up for collaborative group work to practice shared problem-solving and social-emotional communication.\r\n\r\nThank you for giving our class the tools to create a calmer, more supportive environment where every student feels ready to learn!","fullyFundedDate":1784154948222,"projectUrl":"project/student-self-care/10235261/","projectTitle":"Student Self-Care","teacherDisplayName":"Dr. Muehleisen","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-4_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/5619146"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_82969","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":15,"numTeachers":2,"percentFrplEligible":95,"percentAsian":6,"percentBlack":15,"percentWhite":18,"percentIndigenous":0,"percentLatinx":47,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","percentHawaiianImputed":1,"percentMultiracialImputed":7,"gradesServed":"K - 5","studentTeacherRatio":"7.5:1","demographicsDataSource":"MDR District Record","equityFocus":true,"titleOne":false,"metroType":"RURAL","ncesMetroType":"RURAL_DISTANT"},"inStateSupporters":100.0,"schoolId":82969,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about Earl B Lundy Elementary School on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"Earl B Lundy Elementary School","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/nevada/clark-county-school-district/earl-b-lundy-elementary-school/82969"}
