Although our camera arrived shortly before Thanksgiving giving us only a few short weeks to figure it out and use it before Christmas break, students have been using the new camera daily to capture quality pictures of all of our events at Southern Valley from basketball games and wrestling meets to quiz bowl and FCCLA events. The new camera has taken some time to get figured out, but already the picture quality is so much better than from our older cameras or from students' cell phones. Already we have captured higher quality photos to use in our yearbook and other publications than we have ever been able to produce before. \r\n\r\nWe now have two cameras that we can really rely on which is perfect especially during this time of the year as almost every day both cameras are out of the room taking pictures at winter events and athletic activities. For example, just yesterday the camera took pictures of our students at our FCCLA conference hosted at our school. After school, both cameras went out to capture moments at a HS bowling meet and at our conference basketball game. Students came back today excited to show me their photos because they are getting great quality photos. \r\n\r\nIn addition to photos, we have been using the new camera to create videos as well. We didn't foresee using it so much for this purpose, but it is creating better quality videos than our older video camera. Students are using it for their PSAs and broadcast state journalism projects to produce state-worthy videos. This has been a pleasant addition to our technology here as well. \r\n\r\nHowever, the biggest impact this camera may have is to inspire more students to become photographers and to join journalism. I have two students who are very interested in becoming professional photographers. They often take the camera when they have extra time to begin practicing for their potential career in photography. Even more exciting is that some of our junior high kids who are not yet able in Journalism have had the opportunity to use the camera to take pictures. After taking pictures with it at a JH boys basketball game, their interest has increased in photography, in journalism, and in taking journalism at our school. These students have come in to ask to borrow a camera to start taking pictures just for fun to learn more about how to take great shots. Having that opportunity and getting kids excited really is the best way to grow a program. \r\n\r\nTo some, a camera is just a tool to capture a memory, but to our students, it really has become an inspiration. \r\n\r\nThank you again so much for this opportunity!","fullyFundedDate":1730378532102,"projectUrl":"project/making-memories-and-capturing-images/8800584/","projectTitle":"Making Memories and Capturing Images","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Blickenstaff","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-4_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/9760786"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_62139","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":145,"numTeachers":19,"percentFrplEligible":53,"percentAsian":0,"percentBlack":0,"percentWhite":89,"percentIndigenous":1,"percentLatinx":5,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","gradesServed":"7 - 12","studentTeacherRatio":"7.6:1","demographicsDataSource":"MDR School","equityFocus":true,"titleOne":false,"metroType":"RURAL","ncesMetroType":"RURAL_REMOTE"},"inStateSupporters":54.2,"schoolId":62139,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about Southern Valley High School on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"Southern Valley High School","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/nebraska/southern-valley-school-district-540/southern-valley-junior-senior-high-school/62139"}
