Period poverty, or the inability to afford or access necessary menstrual supplies, is real, especially in lower income areas such as ours. Embarrassment over needing these supplies is also real, and very common with our elementary age girls. Being able to supply our fourth and fifth grade bathrooms with these needed menstrual supplies eliminates the poverty AND embarrassment piece for my students. \r\n I check our bathrooms multiple times a week to ensure that the \"pouches\" are stocked with different absorbencies of pads and tampons. Nothing is worse than going into the restroom without your needed supplies - I never want our girls to experience that while at school. \r\n I received notification of this donation last Friday, which just so happened to be the day of our annual fifth grade puberty lesson. I shared during the lesson that we had been gifted several boxes of tampons - my excitement was way more visible than theirs, but remember these were fifth grade girls, many who were experiencing a sense of embarrassment. I can assure you that they'll be excited the first time these supplies come in handy.","fullyFundedDate":1741217008769,"projectUrl":"project/project-period/8922037/","projectTitle":"Project PERIOD.","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Robertson","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-7_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/9513873"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_79396","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":531,"numTeachers":28,"percentFrplEligible":40,"percentAsian":0,"percentBlack":0,"percentWhite":93,"percentIndigenous":0,"percentLatinx":3,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","gradesServed":"Pre-K - 5","studentTeacherRatio":"19.0:1","demographicsDataSource":"MDR School","equityFocus":true,"titleOne":true,"metroType":"RURAL","ncesMetroType":"RURAL_REMOTE"},"inStateSupporters":81.8,"schoolId":79396,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about Calvert Elementary School on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"Calvert Elementary School","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/nebraska/auburn-public-school-district-29/calvert-elementary-school/79396"}
