Your support has had a significant impact on my students' learning experiences and has enriched their educational journey.\r\n\r\nThis semester, my students are engaging in a unique writing exercise inspired by the esteemed Chris LaTray, the former Poet Laureate of Montana. Each student is dedicated to writing one sentence per day, a practice that mirrors LaTray's own method of journaling. He famously compiled his daily sentences into a remarkable book of poetry, showcasing the power of simple, yet profound, expressions.\r\n\r\nLast year, we were fortunate to have Chris LaTray as a guest speaker at our school. His visit left a lasting impression on my students, who continue to speak fondly of his insights and the passion he brings to the world of poetry. The influence of his work has motivated my students to explore their own voices and creativity through writing.\r\n\r\nAs we approach the conclusion of this semester, the culmination of their efforts will be showcased in their final project for English Language Arts. Each student will compose their own collection of poetry, drawing inspiration from the sentences they have crafted throughout the term. This project not only allows them to express their thoughts and feelings but also honors the legacy of Chris LaTray in a personal and meaningful way.\r\n\r\nOnce again, thank you for your generous donations. Your support plays a crucial role in fostering a love for writing and literature among my students, and it is deeply appreciated.","fullyFundedDate":1726513338819,"projectUrl":"project/enhancing-native-american-voices-in-the/8754311/","projectTitle":"Enhancing Native American Voices in the ELA Classroom","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Holler","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-6_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/3769691"},{"teacherId":9710781,"projectId":8838931,"letterContent":"In the past few years, it has come to my attention that students struggle more with understanding informational texts. In a typical ELA classroom, we incorporate both fiction and non-fiction into the curriculum, however, with more articles rather than books. This is just one reason I wanted to include more non-fiction texts into my library. Having more high interest informational texts on hand will hopefully get students more engaged in reading and understanding that genre.\r\n\r\nWhen students have free choice independent reading time, I have noticed that more of them are interested in some of the books I purchased with the donation money. With such a variety of interests, almost every student is able to find something they can connect with when choosing a non-fiction book. Our classes are grateful to have those types of books available in our classroom. Thank you so much for the donation that allowed that to happen, it truly means a lot.","fullyFundedDate":1727673916466,"projectUrl":"project/students-need-paper-books-in-hand/8838931/","projectTitle":"Students Need Paper Books in Hand!","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Kavanaugh","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-1_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/9710781"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_78432","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":660,"numTeachers":33,"percentFrplEligible":28,"percentAsian":0,"percentBlack":0,"percentWhite":91,"percentIndigenous":0,"percentLatinx":3,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","gradesServed":"5 - 8","studentTeacherRatio":"20.0:1","demographicsDataSource":"MDR School","equityFocus":false,"titleOne":false,"metroType":"TOWN","ncesMetroType":"TOWN_REMOTE"},"inStateSupporters":80.0,"schoolId":78432,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about Whitefish Middle School on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"Whitefish Middle School","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/montana/whitefish-school-district-44/whitefish-middle-school/78432"}
