In my classroom, my fifth graders worked hard to increase their independent reading stamina. Starting at one minute they were able to increase to 35 consistently, with a maximum of 45 minutes one day. They showed so much growth over the course of several weeks. \r\n\r\nThese new books got students excited to read. When I opened up the big box of brand new books they were yelling with joy! They were \"fighting\" over who would get to read certain ones first. The Wild Robot was a very popular pick. \r\n\r\nThe graphic novels that were added as an extra gift were also very popular amongst my class as they love graphic novels. \r\n\r\nI am working very hard on instilling a love for reading in my 5th grade students.
