Our language arts and mathematics curriculums contain many online components including assessment, enrichment, self led learning opportunities, research, and learning based games. When I applied for this grant, I only had 5 computers in my classroom that were able to meet the update requirements necessary to be used for assessment.\r\n\r\nBy applying for this grant and committing approximately 2 hours collecting documentation and uploading it, I received one additional Chromebook. This Donors Choose project was valued at $355. When the Chromebook arrived, our tech advisor (who is also a full time teacher for our small district) had to contact CDWG to complete the process of adding it to our system. It was most definitely a labor intensive and expensive way to access federal ESSER funds. It does underscore just how desperate and often pessimistic teachers may feel as they attempt to educate our nation's next generation of leaders. \r\n\r\nLuckily, I am blessed in my classroom with many great parent volunteers. They noticed the difficulties we were having with the lack of adequate, undamaged technology and knew that I needed more than just one new Chromebook. They were concerned their children were using Chromebooks with leaking batteries, warped keyboards, and damaged headphone jacks which led to garbled audio. One parent offered to purchase additional Chromebooks out of her own pocket. A second approached our Booster Club for funds. I told both there were resources available in our school's technology fund and that I was willing to wait as my classroom might not have the greatest need as our upper grade classrooms were also in need of new Chromebooks. However, their persistence led to nine additional Chromebooks being purchased for my class. I was embarrassed that I swayed the opinion of my school's administration as perhaps the funding should have been saved for a more pressing need.\r\n\r\nIt is unfortunate my classroom (and others) could not access the full $500 apiece offered by Montana's Office of Public Instruction as they attempted to distribute ESSER funding. I regret so much was lost to overhead and third party compensation. Regardless, I do appreciate any help towards having up to date and safe technology in my classroom to help students become more proficient in language arts and mathematics.","fullyFundedDate":1726426497440,"projectUrl":"project/help-mt-use-its-esser-funding/8779135/","projectTitle":"Help MT Use Its ESSER Funding","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Lapan","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp6642442_orig.jpg?crop=2068,2068,x363,y0&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1726270610123","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/6642442"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_78412","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":171,"numTeachers":10,"percentFrplEligible":2,"percentAsian":0,"percentBlack":0,"percentWhite":95,"percentIndigenous":0,"percentLatinx":3,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","gradesServed":"K - 8","studentTeacherRatio":"17.1:1","demographicsDataSource":"MDR School","equityFocus":false,"titleOne":false,"metroType":"TOWN","ncesMetroType":"RURAL_DISTANT"},"inStateSupporters":60.0,"schoolId":78412,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about Deer Park Elementary School on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"Deer Park Elementary School","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/montana/deer-park-school-district-2/deer-park-elementary-school/78412"}
