The day our classroom received the board games the students were so eager to break them out and start using them! I set them out and wanted them to explore. I told them they could use them during down time, but they had to ask their peers to engage in a game with them. It didn't take long before I saw students who never talk to their peers asking to join in the fun. I also saw students looking around to find a new friend who was also done with work, because they wanted to play a game even if it was with someone they had never interacted with. These simple games helped to build a better sense of community in my classroom, and help bring students together who might never have talked to each other. The best part was seeing the kids gravitate toward board games instead of their phones! \r\n\r\nThank you for your generous donation to help my students build strong connections with their peers!","fullyFundedDate":1746464626205,"projectUrl":"project/board-games-for-social-emotional-learnin/9281926/","projectTitle":"Board Games for Social Emotional Learning","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Chilton","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-6_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/9754490"},{"teacherId":1147873,"projectId":8829699,"letterContent":"Thank you for the grant that helped me purchase tools and materials to teach a unit on casting. With the money I was able to purchase multiple 2 part sand casting flasks/ molds and some Sterling Silver casting grain, about 3 ounces total. Students learned how to carve a wax ring to a given size. Once the refined the wax model, they calculated how much metal they would need by taking their wax weight and multiplying it by the specific gravity of the metal and adding 15% for the button. We decided to use a Japanese alloy known as Shibuichi which is 25% silver and 75% copper so students also needed to calculate those percentages before casting. This grant expanded our learning and facility.","fullyFundedDate":1727703744103,"projectUrl":"project/calculating-wax-to-metal-weight-using-sp/8829699/","projectTitle":"Calculating Wax to Metal Weight Using Specific Gravity in Casting","teacherDisplayName":"Mr. Petersen","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp1147873_orig.jpg?crop=1:1,smart&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1749856681773","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/1147873"},{"teacherId":9779478,"projectId":8826703,"letterContent":"Thanks to your generous donation of painting materials, my students have been able to explore a unique art project combining color mixing, math, and literacy. The new palette knives and paints have allowed them to experiment with texture and color theory in ways they hadn't before.\r\n\r\nWe started by learning about artists who used palette knives in their work. After learning about their techniques, we discussed how artists often experiment with different tools to create unique textures and effects. This sparked a lot of excitement and curiosity among the students, especially as they thought about how they could incorporate these techniques into their own art.\r\n\r\nNext, we focused on color mixing. Students used some math ratios and color theory to mix paint. The hands-on nature of the project allowed them to directly apply their knowledge of color theory while also reinforcing concepts like ratios and proportions. Using the palette knives to mix the colors and apply them to their canvases added another layer of creativity to the process.\r\n\r\nThe next phase of the project will involve refining their color-mixing skills and applying what they've learned to create more original artwork. \r\n\r\nThis project has been a wonderful blend of art, math, and literacy, and it's been incredible to see how much the students have learned and grown. The donated materials have made a huge difference in our classroom, giving my students the tools they need to develop both their artistic and analytical skills.\r\n\r\nThank you again for your generous contribution—it has truly enhanced our learning experience!","fullyFundedDate":1733343614698,"projectUrl":"project/palette-perspectives-blending-art-math/8826703/","projectTitle":"Palette Perspectives: Blending Art, Math, and Literacy","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Vidmar","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp9779478_orig.jpg?crop=1080,1080,x0,y54&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1727315351218","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/9779478"},{"teacherId":4643585,"projectId":8760396,"letterContent":"The introduction of a document camera into the high school science classroom has had a significant impact on student engagement and learning. Students were immediately excited about this new technology, as it allowed them to clearly see demonstrations of lab techniques in real time. For example, when the teacher modeled how to create a wet-mount microscope slide, the camera provided a zoomed-in, detailed view of each step. This eliminated the common challenge of students crowding around a single lab bench and straining to observe, ensuring that every student in the classroom had an equal opportunity to see the procedure clearly and accurately. The ability to witness these techniques up close increased student confidence when they attempted the skills on their own and helped reduce common mistakes during labs.\r\n\r\nThe document camera has proven especially beneficial for visual learners, who thrive when they can observe processes in action. Rather than relying solely on verbal instructions or static diagrams, students could watch the procedure unfold step by step in high resolution. This dynamic, visual approach kept students more engaged and attentive, as they could directly connect the demonstration to their own hands-on practice. Overall, the document camera has not only enhanced the clarity of instruction but also created a more inclusive learning environment where students are more motivated, focused, and successful in mastering essential lab skills.","fullyFundedDate":1726250216761,"projectUrl":"project/modern-equipment-to-enhance-learning-for/8760396/","projectTitle":"Modern Equipment to Enhance Learning for High School Biology Classroom","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Placko","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/272x272/tp4643585_272x272.jpg?width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1502655981355","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/4643585"},{"teacherId":9759123,"projectId":8799304,"letterContent":"I am grateful for the speakers, lamp, and chargers you provided for my classroom. During our recent paper airplane project, the speakers were instrumental in playing a video that introduced the concept and captured my students' attention. They were so engaged as they designed and launched their planes, but the real excitement came when they began collecting data on their flights. Thanks to the chargers, we were able to keep our devices powered as students entered their results into Google Sheets, analyzing trends and learning how technology can enhance problem-solving skills.\r\n\r\nThe lamp you provided also helped create a focused and comfortable environment, especially during the times we worked on gathering and analyzing data. It was amazing to see how the combination of these resources helped bring the project to life, allowing my students to connect real-world experiences to the data they were gathering. Your generous donations not only provided tools but inspired my students to think critically and creatively. One of our major goals this year has been to tend to our students' mental health and emotional wellbeing. The library is an ideal place to do this because it represents not only a \"third place\" or neutral ground beyond home or the traditional classroom but the overall mission of the library is to serve the needs of all its users at all times. And our students need a safe and welcoming space amid the normal chaos of the average school day. \r\n\r\nIt may seem prosaic that what all that boils down to is twinkle lights and snow blankets and Clorox wipes and earbuds. Nevertheless, those little items provide an outsized impact on our space. One of the best ways students can self-regulate is by listening to music and they have a tendency to lose or forget their earbuds so having give-away earbuds on hand in a multitude of cheery colors has made more than a few students' days since we received this donation. Being able to decorate the library with soft, colorful, homey lighting helps us tone down the institutional vibe of a typical large high school in 2025. It helps ease students' moods and it provides visual comfort. We have a large bulletin board that greets students as they enter the library and our new lights have allowed us to increase the \"wow\" factor of that display. Finally, our library sees a lot of student use throughout the day and, given how large a space it is, our custodians struggle to keep up with the inevitable messes that accumulate in our space. Clorox wipes are a great tool for us to pitch in and help keep our space clean and healthy for all our students.\r\n\r\nWe are so grateful for your support and we thank you, from the bottom of our hearts.","fullyFundedDate":1733343614816,"projectUrl":"project/the-library-a-sanctuary-amidst-the-chao/8788827/","projectTitle":"The Library: A Sanctuary Amidst the Chaos of High School","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Miller","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-6_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/9748150"},{"teacherId":9746536,"projectId":8789465,"letterContent":"I am writing today to tell you how much I appreciate you choosing to fund my project: Discovering Soil: Macronutrients, pH, and Physical Characteristics.\r\n\r\nThe impact of your gift was immediate. Instead of walking to the other side of the school to pick up the masses for our labs each day, I now have a classroom set of three masses that are great for the labs that we do. They are accurate to one-hundredth of a gram, sturdy, and easy to use.\r\n\r\nOur soil lab set is great, too. With the early snow and the frozen ground, we have not used it yet, but it will be great addition to our classroom. As a Social Students teacher, I utilize primary source documents as frequently as I can in my classroom. However, the language of primary sources is often difficult for students to process and understand. Since receiving the iPad, I have been able to project the source we are reading and annotate the documents for students real-time as I am teaching. This allows them to see key points that I highlight, the annotations I made on the documents to help them decode the text, and has drastically improved the quality of our class discussions about primary sources. In addition, because this is an iPad and not a doc-cam, I am able to record the lesson which means students who are absent are able to later access the annotated documents with my voice reading/decoding the text for them. \r\n\r\nI knew this device would be helpful for my students, but I am finding more ways to improve my teaching through technology daily because of this iPad.
