The Seeing Symmetry books provided a wonderful foundation for exploring the concept of symmetry, which is central to our current art project inspired by Plains Indian parfleche designs. The students were fascinated by the examples in the books and it really helped them to understand the underlying principles of symmetry in art and nature. The geometric stencils have been a game-changer, giving each student the opportunity to create precise and intricate designs. Having enough stencils for everyone to work simultaneously has fostered a dynamic and collaborative learning environment.\r\n\r\nThis project, focused on parfleche art, is particularly meaningful for our students as it connects to the rich traditions of the Apsáalooke tribe, on whose ancestral lands we are fortunate to live and learn. We also use it to set up our board games during our indoor recess times during the chilly winter months. The rug is sturdy, beautiful, and comfortable.
