The calming visuals, sensory tools, and mindfulness prompts you helped provide have empowered students to name their emotions, use coping strategies, and return to learning with greater confidence and calm. Many of these students have limited exposure to the world beyond their immediate surroundings. By becoming \"World Travelers\" in their minds, they have been empowered to dream beyond their circumstances and build a deeper sense of curiosity, empathy, and resilience.\r\n\r\nThrough personalized \"World Traveler Passports,\" students have documented their weekly virtual journeys to different countries and cities. These immersive experiences have broadened their understanding of diverse cultures, landscapes, and traditions—sparking excitement and a genuine interest in learning. They've tasted international cuisines, listened to global music, explored maps, and celebrated customs that were once unfamiliar.\r\n\r\nEqually important, the integration of mindfulness has given our students tools for emotional regulation and self-awareness. In a world that can often feel overwhelming, especially for young learners navigating economic hardship, the practice of breathing techniques and calming strategies has helped them feel more in control and grounded.\r\n\r\nThis project has not only expanded their horizons but has also helped them discover their inner strength. They are learning that while they may not yet have the means to travel physically, their minds and hearts can take them anywhere. And wherever life takes them, they now know they carry the power of mindfulness within themselves.","fullyFundedDate":1724424984029,"projectUrl":"project/first-grade-world-travelers-exploring-t/8583305/","projectTitle":"First Grade World Travelers: Exploring the World Through Mindfulness and Passports","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. ONeal","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp5515084_orig.jpg?crop=1:1,smart&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1727290234365","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/5515084"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_56200","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":176,"numTeachers":17,"percentFrplEligible":95,"percentAsian":0,"percentBlack":98,"percentWhite":0,"percentIndigenous":0,"percentLatinx":1,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","gradesServed":"Pre-K - 5","studentTeacherRatio":"10.4:1","demographicsDataSource":"MDR School","equityFocus":true,"titleOne":true,"metroType":"URBAN","ncesMetroType":"CITY_LARGE"},"inStateSupporters":61.5,"schoolId":56200,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about Columbia Elementary School on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"Columbia Elementary School","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/missouri/st-louis-public-schools/columbia-cec-elementary-school/56200"}
