We began with our first lesson, \"What Is Theatre? / Observation,\" where students learned that theatre is the art of telling stories through acting—and that great performers start by observing the world around them. Even with a delayed start and several absences due to illness, participation is growing. This week, more than half of our young actors attended rehearsal and completed a read-through of Bad Auditions by Bad Actors by Ian McWethy, the play they chose for their debut performance.\r\n\r\nAlready, I see their confidence and literacy improving. Students who needed help reading aloud are gaining fluency and expression through script work and collaboration. The microphones, materials, and play rights funded by this project ensure every child can be seen, heard, and supported. I'm especially grateful to Ben H., my brother in solidarity from AFT Local 420, and to all who donated—you've given our students the tools and encouragement to shine on stage and beyond.","fullyFundedDate":1746786935750,"projectUrl":"project/unmuted-unforgettable-student-voices/9220163/","projectTitle":"Unmuted & Unforgettable: Student Voices Take Stage at Ram’s Playhouse","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Hilliard","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp9845258_orig.jpg?crop=2320,2320,x0,y556&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1732231535690","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/9845258"},{"teacherId":9845258,"projectId":8960687,"letterContent":"On behalf of my students and myself, I extend our deepest gratitude for your generous contributions to the \"Multiplying Success: Essential Math Tools\" project. Your support has made a significant and tangible impact on our classroom and the learning journey of my students.\r\nHow We Are Using the New Resources:\r\nThe materials you provided have become an integral part of our daily instruction. We have incorporated them into our \"Do Now\" routine, dividing it into both ELA and Math components. This consistent repetition has been instrumental in building our students' confidence, particularly in mastering multiplication tables. Furthermore, we are utilizing the kit during our \"Wisdom Wednesday\" sessions, which are dedicated to focused skill development. In the third and fourth quarters, we have specifically targeted key ELA and Math concepts, with our Social Studies class reinforcing ELA skills and dedicating a segment to applied math skills.\r\nA Specific Classroom Project and Moment:\r\nOne notable moment occurred when the students eagerly unpacked the math kits. Their excitement was palpable as they shared the contents with our 7th-grade support staff. The resources have been invaluable in helping students recognize and correct errors in calculations, even when calculators are available. This has shifted their focus towards higher-order math skills, leading to substantial improvements in their overall test scores.\r\nStudent Reactions:\r\nThe students were genuinely thrilled when they first received the materials. It was clear they felt valued and supported. The hands-on nature of the resources immediately engaged them, and their enthusiasm has continued to fuel their learning.\r\nNext Steps and Impact:\r\nThe positive impact of your contributions is evident in our recent testing data. From fall to winter, we saw remarkable progress:\r\n18 students moved out of the \"below basic\" category.\r\n3 students moved into the \"basic\" category.\r\n5 students achieved \"proficient\" scores.\r\n5 students reached the \"advanced\" category.\r\nThis data underscores the effectiveness of the resources and the students' increased confidence. It is now clear to them that by mastering foundational skills, they can allocate more time to applying 7th-grade concepts, leading to improved test-taking efficiency and higher scores.\r\nContinuing the Journey and Looking Ahead:\r\nWe are committed to maximizing the impact of these invaluable tools, not only for our current students but also for future classes. We will continue to integrate the materials into our daily instruction, reinforcing core concepts and building upon the remarkable progress we have already witnessed. Looking forward to the 2025-2026 school year, we plan to utilize the kit at the very beginning of the term. This proactive approach will allow our incoming 7th-grade students to achieve proficiency in multiplication tables earlier in the year, laying a strong foundation for their success in more advanced mathematical concepts. Our ongoing focus will remain on fostering a deeper understanding of mathematical principles and enhancing problem-solving abilities, ensuring that every student reaches their full potential.\r\nThank you once again for your unwavering belief in our students and your investment in their future. Your generosity has made a profound and lasting difference, and we are excited to see the continued positive impact on our students' academic journeys.\r\n\r\nLeonette White-Hilliard\r\nCentral Middle - Riverview Gardens School District","fullyFundedDate":1742583016938,"projectUrl":"project/multiplying-success-essential-math-tool/8960687/","projectTitle":"Multiplying Success: Essential Math Tools","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Hilliard","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp9845258_orig.jpg?crop=2320,2320,x0,y556&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1732231535690","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/9845258"},{"teacherId":9804533,"projectId":8880601,"letterContent":"Thank you for your incredible generosity in supporting my 7th-grade math classroom. The resources you provided—calculators, math towers, pencils, dice, and board games—have significantly enhanced my students' ability to understand and apply mathematical concepts. These tools have been vital in helping them strengthen their problem-solving skills and build confidence in tackling challenging topics like rational numbers, fractions, and operations.\r\n\r\nThese resources have also played a critical role in preparing students for their STAR Test. By using the hands-on tools to practice and reinforce key concepts, my students developed a deeper understanding of mathematics and improved their ability to solve problems efficiently. The calculators were especially helpful in giving them the confidence to approach complex calculations, while the interactive games and activities fostered critical thinking and collaborative learning.\r\n\r\nYour support has not only increased their mathematical proficiency but also positively impacted their performance on assessments. I've seen students take pride in their progress, and they approach math with a new sense of enthusiasm and determination.
