Some students have not been able to last the whole day in the classroom because their emotional state is not in the greatest place, and they feel more comfortable working in the counseling center. \r\n\r\nNow, I have many resources available for all of my students to help them cope with everyday challenges and more significant needs. When all of the boxes arrived, my students were so excited and amazed that someone would be willing to provide for them in that way. \r\n\r\nMy cabinet is completely full of supplies and I feel so grateful every time I open it. For example, during our recent unit on character analysis, each student took a turn writing important traits or quotes from the main character on the chart. The ability to collaborate in this visual way allowed students to take ownership of their learning, and it helped deepen their understanding as they discussed and referred back to the chart throughout the unit.\r\n\r\nThe beanbags have been a huge hit as well! At first, there was a lot of excitement and curiosity when students discovered the new seating. They love the flexibility to read comfortably and engage with the books more deeply. For example, one student who usually struggles to focus in a traditional desk setting found that reading on a beanbag allowed them to concentrate better and enjoy the story. It's been amazing to see them so engaged in reading.\r\n\r\nThe new book series have already sparked a new sense of excitement around literature in our classroom. One of the most touching moments was when a student who had been reluctant to read for months finished a Percy Jackson book in just two weeks and proudly showed it to me. This moment was not just about finishing a book but about regaining confidence in their abilities as a reader.\r\n\r\nThe wheel of emotions, which was initially met with curiosity, has also opened up important conversations about empathy and wellness. We've used it as a tool in discussions about health, well-being, and understanding diverse perspectives. It's been an unexpected but impactful addition to our classroom culture.\r\n\r\nLooking ahead, the markers, Post-it notes, and flexible seating will continue to support their creativity and collaboration as they take ownership of their learning. As students work together, they'll reference our anchor charts to help with character development and storytelling techniques, creating a rich, interactive learning experience.\r\n\r\nI can't express enough how grateful I am for your support. These resources have not only enhanced the learning environment but have also made my students feel seen, heard, and supported. Your contribution has truly had a lasting impact on their academic growth and emotional well-being.\r\n\r\nThank you for making this possible, and I look forward to sharing more updates as our students continue to learn and grow.","fullyFundedDate":1728312636810,"projectUrl":"project/confident-capable-and-curious-readers/8532705/","projectTitle":"Confident, Capable, and Curious Readers!","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. McNutt","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-10_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/9597579"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_77877","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":882,"numTeachers":69,"percentFrplEligible":16,"percentAsian":12,"percentBlack":15,"percentWhite":57,"percentIndigenous":0,"percentLatinx":7,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","gradesServed":"6 - 8","studentTeacherRatio":"12.8:1","demographicsDataSource":"MDR School","equityFocus":false,"titleOne":false,"metroType":"SUBURBAN","ncesMetroType":"SUBURB_LARGE"},"inStateSupporters":65.4,"schoolId":77877,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about Parkway Central Middle School on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"Parkway Central Middle School","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/missouri/parkway-school-district/parkway-central-middle-school/77877"}
