Because of you, we now have full sets of The War That Saved My Life and The War I Finally Won, two powerful novels that have made a meaningful impact on our students. These books have sparked important conversations about resilience, identity, and finding a sense of belonging during challenging times.\r\n\r\nIn our classroom, reading is an active and collaborative experience. Students read independently and aloud, annotate their texts, and reflect in journals about what they are learning. We also hold small group discussions where students share their thoughts and questions. These novels have helped us dive into complex themes such as trauma, healing, and personal growth, all within a historical context. Through these stories, students are learning to analyze character development, make inferences, and connect the text to their own lives and the world around them.\r\n\r\nWith only a short time left in the school year, I wasn't sure if we would have to wait until next school year to read the books. I let interested students check them out and conduct an independent study. One student who has struggled with reading in the past told me he couldn't put the book down and asked for the sequel before he had even finished the first one. Another student connected deeply with Ada's journey and said that reading about her made her feel strong, too. Students are asking to check the books out for summer reading. Your donation provided more than just books. It gave our students characters they could relate to, stories that moved them, and the encouragement to see themselves as thoughtful, capable readers. Thank you for making this experience possible.","fullyFundedDate":1746787182592,"projectUrl":"project/inspiring-minds-through-new-books/9234823/","projectTitle":"Inspiring Minds Through New Books","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Jill Williams","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp4381059_orig.jpg?crop=439,439,x0,y0&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1721517854316","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/4381059"},{"teacherId":4381059,"projectId":9173621,"letterContent":"Thanks to your generous support, our new document camera has become an essential part of our daily learning in 6th grade ELA. We use it to project texts during read-alouds, model writing strategies, and share student work for feedback and discussion. This technology has made our lessons more interactive and more fun. Students are able to follow along more closely, see details clearly, and stay engaged throughout activities.\r\n\r\nOne of the most exciting aspects for students is how the document camera allows them to become the teacher. They enjoy taking turns showing their thinking to the class, whether it is annotating a passage, demonstrating a grammar skill, or sharing an example. Several of my quieter students have gained confidence by using the camera to present their work visually. It has been wonderful to see how this tool encourages participation and builds a stronger sense of classroom community.\r\n\r\nWe are so grateful for this resource. Your donation has brought energy and clarity to our lessons and has helped students take more ownership of their learning.
