They immediately wanted to explore the new materials, and I could see how eager they were to try them out. One of my students, who often struggles to stay calm during transitions, picked up a fidget right away and quietly said, \"This helps.\" Moments like that remind me of the power these tools have in giving students the chance to regulate their emotions in positive ways.\r\n\r\nSince then, the fidgets have become an essential part of our daily routines. Students use them during lessons when they start to feel restless or overwhelmed, and I've noticed that they can stay more focused and engaged. The emotion-focused books have also sparked meaningful conversations in our classroom. We recently read a story about handling frustration, and afterward, the students shared times they felt upset and what strategies they could use to calm down. This discussion helped them put words to their feelings and practice healthy coping skills.\r\n\r\nThese resources are making our classroom a place where students feel supported, understood, and capable of tackling challenges. Our next step is to build on this foundation by creating a \"calm corner\" in the classroom, where students can use the fidgets and revisit the books whenever they need a break. This space will give them ownership over their emotional regulation and help them grow even more confident in handling setbacks.\r\n\r\nBecause of your generosity, my students are learning not only academic skills but also life skills that will stay with them far beyond the classroom. Thank you for believing in them and helping them shine.","fullyFundedDate":1745941298223,"projectUrl":"project/self-regulation-and-social-emotional-mat/9045135/","projectTitle":"Self-regulation and Social Emotional Materials","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Thorne","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp3193612_orig.jpg?crop=402,402,x641,y300&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1565800169646","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/3193612"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_76703","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":223,"numTeachers":21,"percentFrplEligible":30,"percentAsian":0,"percentBlack":1,"percentWhite":87,"percentIndigenous":0,"percentLatinx":5,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","gradesServed":"K - 5","studentTeacherRatio":"10.6:1","demographicsDataSource":"MDR School","equityFocus":false,"titleOne":false,"metroType":"TOWN","ncesMetroType":"TOWN_FRINGE"},"inStateSupporters":66.7,"schoolId":76703,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about Kearney Elementary School on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"Kearney Elementary School","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/missouri/kearney-school-district/kearney-elementary-school/76703"}
