My students face many economical and emotional challenges at home. I have some children with learning disabilities and some with behavior challenges. Our school is located in a town north of a large metropolitan area. Specifically our school represents the moderate poverty area containing all of the subsidized housing units. Our free and reduced lunch numbers are up to 35% and continue to rise year after year. Many families have both parents who work and are trying hard to support their families. The parents overall are fairly active in supporting the school and like to stay up to date with what is happening in the classroom.
