Students are working on identifying central ideas, analyzing how individuals respond to challenges, and using text evidence to support their thinking. We also focus on making connections between the text and current events, helping students understand how Malala's experiences are still relevant today. These lessons go beyond basic comprehension and encourage students to think critically about courage, education, and advocacy.\r\n\r\nReading in my classroom is interactive and structured to meet different learning needs. Throughout the week, students engage with the text in a variety of ways: sometimes we read together as a class, other times students read with partners, independently, or listen to YouTube readings. After reading, students take short quizzes to check for understanding, and we regularly have discussions where they share their thoughts and reflect on the text. This combination of reading, listening, and discussion helps build both confidence and comprehension.\r\n\r\nSeveral students have really connected with this book, especially those who enjoy learning about real-life stories. Some students who typically struggle with engagement have shown increased interest during discussions, particularly when we talk about fairness, education, and standing up for what is right. Others enjoy the flexibility of listening to the book or reading with a partner, which helps them stay engaged and feel successful. Overall, these new texts are helping students see themselves as thoughtful readers and active participants in meaningful conversations.","fullyFundedDate":1768083498494,"projectUrl":"project/books-empower/9991788/","projectTitle":"Books Empower","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Lewis","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp6217291_orig.jpg?crop=341,341,x0,y0&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1712597456078","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/6217291"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_77068","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":800,"numTeachers":47,"percentFrplEligible":71,"percentAsian":0,"percentBlack":13,"percentWhite":58,"percentIndigenous":0,"percentLatinx":18,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","gradesServed":"6 - 8","studentTeacherRatio":"17.0:1","demographicsDataSource":"MDR School","equityFocus":true,"titleOne":true,"metroType":"SUBURBAN","ncesMetroType":"SUBURB_LARGE"},"inStateSupporters":67.9,"schoolId":77068,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about Bridger Middle School on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"Bridger Middle School","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/missouri/independence-school-district-30/bridger-middle-school/77068"}
