We have been using the new supplies during our hands-on activities, and our display area is giving us a fun way to showcase pictures of students cooking, designing, creating, and learning throughout the year. The students love seeing themselves and their classmates featured on the wall, and it has been fun watching them stop to look at the pictures and talk about the projects we have completed.\r\n\r\nOne of my favorite parts has been seeing how excited students are when they realize their picture is going up on the wall. It may seem like a small thing, but it gives them a sense of pride and reminds them of everything they have accomplished in class.\r\n\r\nAs we continue through the year, we will keep adding pictures and memories from new projects to our display. By the end of the year, I hope it tells the story of our class and shows just how much my students have learned, created, and grown. My students love any opportunity to get into the kitchen and learn by doing, so they were excited to see the new pots, pans, cooking tools, and especially the pasta machine. These materials give us more opportunities to practice skills that students will actually use outside of school.\r\n\r\nAs we cook, students are learning much more than how to follow a recipe. They are practicing measuring, reading directions, kitchen safety, teamwork, time management, and cleaning up after themselves. One of the things I enjoy most is watching students become more confident and independent each time we cook. They are learning that they are capable of preparing food on their own and working together to solve problems when something doesn't go exactly as planned.\r\n\r\nWe are especially excited to put the pasta machine to use and have students experience making pasta from scratch. As we continue through the year, these supplies will be used for many different cooking projects that help students build practical skills they can take home and use for years to come. In our Design and Modeling class, 3D printing is more than just something fun to watch. Students use computer-aided design (CAD) software to create their own designs, solve problems, make changes, and eventually turn what they created on a screen into a real object they can hold.\r\n\r\nOne of the most exciting parts for students is watching their own design come to life layer by layer. Knowing that their projects can actually be printed gives them a reason to slow down, pay attention to measurements, and make sure their designs will work. It also teaches them that the first attempt may not always be perfect, and that making adjustments is part of the design process.\r\n\r\nThe filament provided through this project means my students will have more opportunities to print, test, and improve their creations without having to worry about running out of materials. I have especially enjoyed seeing students who love hands-on learning become excited about the technology and take pride in showing others what they have created.
