We use these snacks throughout the school day to help students stay focused and ready to learn, especially during longer instructional blocks and after physical education or other demanding classes. Having a quick, nutritious snack available has helped eliminate hunger-related distractions, allowing students to participate more fully in reading groups, math interventions, and social-emotional learning activities. One of my favorite moments was watching a student who often struggled to concentrate finish an entire small-group reading lesson after having a snack and proudly share, \"Now I can think!\"\r\n\r\nWhen my students first saw the snack supply, their faces lit up with excitement and relief. Many immediately expressed their appreciation, and several asked if they could write thank-you notes to the people who made the project possible. They recognized that strangers cared enough to support them, which made them feel valued and encouraged. The snacks quickly became more than just food—they became a reminder that people in our community believe in their success and want them to thrive.\r\n\r\nAs we continue through the school year, these snacks will remain an important part of creating a supportive learning environment where students can focus on building academic and social-emotional skills. Our class is currently working on strengthening reading comprehension, written expression, math problem-solving, and self-management strategies. By helping meet a basic need, these donated snacks allow students to stay engaged, persevere through challenging lessons, and participate confidently in classroom discussions and collaborative activities. Thank you for investing in our students and helping create a classroom where every child has the opportunity to learn, grow, and succeed.","fullyFundedDate":1773360764526,"projectUrl":"project/snacks-to-provide-mental-strength-in-the/10144048/","projectTitle":"Snacks to Provide Mental Strength in the Classroom","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Folkers","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp3572335_orig.jpg?crop=2316,2316,x0,y0&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1652141408858","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/3572335"},{"teacherId":3572335,"projectId":9641937,"letterContent":"Providing snacks through our DonorsChoose project has had a meaningful impact on our classroom. Many students arrive at school hungry, which can make it difficult for them to focus and fully engage in learning. Having consistent access to snacks helps meet a basic need so students can better attend to instruction and classroom activities.\r\n\r\nThe availability of snacks has also improved student behavior and emotional regulation. When students are not distracted by hunger, there are fewer disruptions, increased patience, and more positive peer interactions. This has been especially important during longer instructional blocks and testing periods. My students were so surprised and happy to see that we now have snacks available when they are in need of something quick to eat! \r\n\r\nOverall, the snack program has helped create a more supportive and equitable learning environment. Students feel cared for and supported, which strengthens classroom relationships and builds a sense of community.
