Your generosity has given my students new ways to explore the past, connect with the people who lived through it, and become more interested in the stories behind the events they study.\r\n\r\nThe books have helped make history feel more vivid and meaningful. Historical fiction invites students to imagine what daily life may have been like during another time. As they follow characters through moments of change, challenge, and courage, they begin to think about how historical events affected ordinary people and families. Students can consider the choices people faced, the obstacles they encountered, and the ways they responded to the world around them.\r\n\r\nThe nonfiction books add important facts, background, and real accounts to those conversations. Students can learn more about historical figures, places, events, and experiences while building their understanding of the time periods we study. Reading both kinds of books gives students opportunities to compare a story with historical information, ask thoughtful questions, and discuss how authors help readers understand the past.\r\n\r\nI have seen these books encourage curiosity in my classroom. Students are eager to browse the collection, recommend titles to one another, and share details that caught their attention. A book can lead to a question we explore together or a discussion that helps students see a topic from a new perspective. These moments remind us that history is more than a list of dates and names. It is made up of people, communities, ideas, and experiences that continue to shape our world.\r\n\r\nThe collection also supports students with different interests and reading preferences. Some are drawn to true stories and historical details, while others become engaged through characters and narrative. Having a variety of books makes it easier for students to find a starting point that feels inviting. As they read, they can strengthen their vocabulary, build background knowledge, practice critical thinking, and develop a deeper appreciation for the many voices that make up history.\r\n\r\nMost of all, these books help my students see themselves as readers and historians. They are learning to ask questions, look closely at information, make connections, and think about why a story matters. I am grateful to have resources that encourage those habits and help make our history classroom a place of discovery.\r\n\r\nThank you for investing in my students and supporting their learning. Your generosity has helped bring history off the page and into our classroom. We appreciate the opportunity to learn, read, and grow through this meaningful collection.","fullyFundedDate":1746787206669,"projectUrl":"project/books-to-inspire-knowledge/9241974/","projectTitle":"Books to Inspire Knowledge","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Bonds","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp3116849_orig.jpg?crop=1:1,smart&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1720657405933","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/carpetsforkiddos"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_15924","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":577,"numTeachers":37,"percentFrplEligible":95,"percentAsian":0,"percentBlack":90,"percentWhite":2,"percentIndigenous":0,"percentLatinx":3,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","percentHawaiianImputed":0,"percentMultiracialImputed":3,"gradesServed":"9 - 12","studentTeacherRatio":"15.6:1","demographicsDataSource":"MDR School","equityFocus":true,"titleOne":true,"metroType":"TOWN","ncesMetroType":"TOWN_REMOTE"},"inStateSupporters":43.4,"schoolId":15924,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about McComb High School on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"McComb High School","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/mississippi/mccomb-school-district/mccomb-high-school/15924"}
