We envisioned an outdoor classroom where teachers could bring students for a change of scenery, where groups could gather to work on projects, where students could read or study in the fresh air, and where our school community could have another welcoming place to connect.\r\n\r\nBecause of your generosity, that vision is becoming a reality.\r\n\r\nYour support has helped us create a space that extends learning beyond the walls of the traditional classroom. Camelot Commons gives our teachers new possibilities for instruction and gives our students a place that feels different from the desks, bells, and fluorescent lights that shape so much of the school day. Sometimes a new environment is all it takes to spark a new conversation, a new idea, or a little renewed enthusiasm for learning.\r\n\r\nJust as importantly, this project gives our students something that can be difficult to measure but is incredibly important: a sense that their school is a place designed with them in mind. When students see people investing in spaces for them, they receive a powerful message that their education, their experiences, and their well-being matter.\r\n\r\nCamelot Commons will serve students across our campus rather than a single classroom or course. English students may discuss literature outside. Science students may make observations in the open air. Clubs and organizations can gather there. Students can collaborate on projects, teachers can hold class discussions, and members of our school community can simply sit together and enjoy a space created for connection. The possibilities will continue to grow as our teachers and students make the Commons their own.\r\n\r\nWe also love that this project reflects the identity of our school. As the home of the Knights, the name \"Camelot Commons\" connects the space to our school community while capturing exactly what we hoped it would become: a shared gathering place at the heart of campus life.\r\n\r\nProjects like this remind our students that education is a community effort. Schools are strengthened when teachers, families, neighbors, and generous supporters come together around young people and say, in effect, \"We believe this is worth building.\"\r\n\r\nYou helped us build something that will be used by hundreds of students, not just once, but again and again. Long after the boxes are opened and the materials are put into place, students will continue learning, talking, reading, laughing, collaborating, and making memories in the space you helped create.\r\n\r\nFrom all of us at West Lauderdale High School, thank you for believing in our students, supporting our teachers, and helping us bring Camelot Commons to life. We are deeply grateful to have you as part of our Round Table.","fullyFundedDate":1774469290212,"projectUrl":"project/lights-shade-learning-completing-came/10132870/","projectTitle":"Lights, Shade, Learning: Completing Camelot Commons","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Waters","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp3049045_orig.jpg?crop=1092,1092,x56,y0&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1725484181299","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/srwaters"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_10127","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":516,"numTeachers":38,"percentFrplEligible":46,"percentAsian":0,"percentBlack":18,"percentWhite":72,"percentIndigenous":0,"percentLatinx":3,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","percentHawaiianImputed":0,"percentMultiracialImputed":4,"gradesServed":"9 - 12","studentTeacherRatio":"13.6:1","demographicsDataSource":"MDR School","equityFocus":true,"titleOne":false,"metroType":"RURAL","ncesMetroType":"RURAL_DISTANT"},"inStateSupporters":54.2,"schoolId":10127,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about West Lauderdale High School on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"West Lauderdale High School","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/mississippi/lauderdale-county-school-district/west-lauderdale-attendance-ctr/10127"}
