I will be teaching second grade instead of first grade, but all of these items may be used for tailored instruction for them. My students absolutely love the pointers for reading. They help them stay focused and slow them down so that they are able to comprehend what they read. The transparent bookmarks are an additional tool that I am using to support my struggling readers as they are trying to make meaning of what they read. These bookmarks help them read one sentence at a time which prevents them from feeling overwhelmed. I can't wait to start using all of these materials this school year. When I had originally created this project I was going to use the gift card to purchase above grade level materials for my classroom. I can't wait to use these resources this year and eventually years to come. The books bins are extremely durable and can hold chapter books perfectly. The rug will provide a spot for my students to relax as they read. It also complements the calming colors of my ocean room decor. The ocean projector can be used throughout the day as a calming mechanism for my students. I love that I can control the settings of the projector from my phone or a remote depending on what is easier for me to come across at a given moment. These stories can be introduced and reinforced in any random order throughout a school year. For example diphthong au is normally taught at the end of the scope and sequence in our curriculum. With secret stories, I can introduce the letters au when I am going over the month August. This helps my students not only make a visual connection but also an auditory and kinesthetic. I bought a back to school bundle that had icebreaker activities and visual posters of our procedures. This was an easy low prep way to bring some back to school activities for my students. \r\n\r\nI also purchased a calendar math set that I use as a part of our daily morning meeting. It helps reinforce and reteach essential math skills in my classroom. I was able to purchase some flexible seating scoop rockers for my read to self center. My students are engaged in their reading at this center with a reading buddy. The kids anticipate the read to self center each week.\r\n\r\nI was also able to purchase mesh zipper bags to organize my student's headphones. These bags are durable and easily fit in the book bins I have purchased to store inside each cubby.
