My book bin for Dog Man books was immediately empty as my students saw that we had new ones to read. My students discovered the Magic Tree House and Junie B Jones graphic novels and feel in love with the new series. Many students have come to me and begged for new books from the series after completing the ones that I have. They even showed me that there were additional books in the series. \r\n\r\nDuring our small group reading, my students can't wait to go to the library center so they can enjoyed flexible seating while reading a book. I am thrilled that I am able to encourage my students to read and develop a love for reading. They are able to get more comfortable and really sink into the learning task. Other Fridays my students are participating in building a model using magna tiles, shapes, hash tag blocks, legos, and a marble maze. I will be teaching second grade instead of first grade, but all of these items may be used for tailored instruction for them. My students absolutely love the pointers for reading. They help them stay focused and slow them down so that they are able to comprehend what they read. The transparent bookmarks are an additional tool that I am using to support my struggling readers as they are trying to make meaning of what they read. These bookmarks help them read one sentence at a time which prevents them from feeling overwhelmed. I can't wait to start using all of these materials this school year. I can't wait to use these resources this year and eventually years to come.
