My book bin for Dog Man books was immediately empty as my students saw that we had new ones to read. My students discovered the Magic Tree House and Junie B Jones graphic novels and feel in love with the new series. Many students have come to me and begged for new books from the series after completing the ones that I have. They even showed me that there were additional books in the series. \r\n\r\nDuring our small group reading, my students can't wait to go to the library center so they can enjoyed flexible seating while reading a book. I am thrilled that I am able to encourage my students to read and develop a love for reading. They are able to get more comfortable and really sink into the learning task. The transparent bookmarks are an additional tool that I am using to support my struggling readers as they are trying to make meaning of what they read. These bookmarks help them read one sentence at a time which prevents them from feeling overwhelmed. I can't wait to start using all of these materials this school year. I love that I can control the settings of the projector from my phone or a remote depending on what is easier for me to come across at a given moment. These stories can be introduced and reinforced in any random order throughout a school year. For example diphthong au is normally taught at the end of the scope and sequence in our curriculum. With secret stories, I can introduce the letters au when I am going over the month August. This helps my students not only make a visual connection but also an auditory and kinesthetic.
