Students complete a lesson and then read a decodable book to practice the skills they have learned. We have been using the program since August, and my best readers enjoy reading the Bob Books. Once they read them, they want to take them home and read them to their parents. What may seem like a small item to some can completely change the trajectory of a student's day. \r\nWhen students first saw the Refresh Station, many were quiet but visibly relieved. Some expressed gratitude right away, while others simply smiled. Over time, it has become normalized and stigma-free. Students know they can come in discreetly, take what they need, and head back to class with their heads held high. Another Wiggler sat on it and said it was cool and helped him think. \r\nWe are now thinking of ways for us to use this in other areas of the room. Suggestions have been made that I might need to get another one.
