Many of them remembered how our system worked before the winter storm, so restoring it became a meaningful classroom moment. Together we carefully introduced the zebrafish into the tank and talked about what they need to survive—clean water, oxygen, stable temperatures, and careful stewardship. Students gathered around the tank watching the fish explore their new home, making observations and asking thoughtful questions about their behavior and movement.\r\n\r\nI also want to share how grateful we are for the outstanding customer service from Ward Science. They followed up to make sure the fish shipment arrived safely, and when I mentioned that a few of the fish were unfortunately DOA during shipping, they immediately sent additional fish free of charge. Their support helped ensure our aquaponics system could be fully restored for my students, and it meant a great deal to our classroom.\r\n\r\nSince restoring the system, the aquaponics tank has once again become a living science center in our classroom. Students help check the water temperature, observe the fish during science time, and talk about how living things depend on their environment. This experience also taught my students an important lesson about resilience—after losing the fish during the winter storm, rebuilding our ecosystem showed them that challenges can become opportunities to learn and grow. Because of your generosity, my students continue to explore science through hands-on experiences every day, and we are excited to keep building opportunities that support their learning and success.","fullyFundedDate":1769908236604,"projectUrl":"project/restoring-our-classroom-aquaponics-after/10067195/","projectTitle":"Restoring Our Classroom Aquaponics After Winter Storm Fern","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Wommack","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp7643853_orig.jpg?crop=910,910,x0,y18&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1747949461909","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/7643853"},{"teacherId":10259025,"projectId":10025774,"letterContent":"The organization supplies from DonorsChoose have made a meaningful impact in my classroom. In a school where resources have always been stretched thin, your kindness has brought joy, energy, and real change to our students in ways we could only dream of before.\r\nOur school serves many families facing economic hardships, and for years our physical education program relied on worn-out balls that wouldn't hold air, frayed jump ropes, a handful of cracked cones, and equipment that was either too old or too few for our growing student body. Many children had limited opportunities to run, jump, play team games, or simply move freely during the school day. Recess and PE often felt more like waiting in line than active fun, leaving some students discouraged or left on the sidelines.\r\nThe arrival of the new gym supplies like dodgeballs, hula hoops, and new games like Badminton, Ladder Toss, and Jenga—has transformed our gymnasium and playground almost overnight. Teachers and students alike describe it as \"Christmas in March\" or \"the best day ever.\" For the first time in years, every child can participate fully without waiting turns or sharing broken gear. We've seen smiles replace hesitation, and laughter echo through the gym during every class.\r\nThe impact goes far beyond fun. Our students are moving more and sitting less, which is especially important in a community where access to safe play spaces outside school can be limited. Teachers report that children return to classrooms calmer, more focused, and ready to learn—physical activity helps channel their energy positively and supports better concentration and behavior. We've noticed shy students gaining confidence as they master new skills, quieter kids joining in team games, and overall a stronger sense of belonging and friendship among classmates.\r\nHealth benefits are emerging too: more children are building coordination, strength, and endurance in ways that will serve them for years to come. In a time when childhood obesity and inactivity are real concerns, especially in under-resourced areas, these supplies give our kids a fighting chance to develop healthy habits early. One second-grader summed it up perfectly when she said, \"The options we have now to have fun and play are so much more than before!\"\r\nYour generosity has not just provided equipment—it has restored hope, sparked excitement for learning through movement, and reminded every child that they matter and deserve opportunities to grow strong in body and spirit. On behalf of our teachers, staff, families, and especially our 400+ eager young students, thank you from the bottom of our hearts. You have made a lasting difference in lives that needed it most.","fullyFundedDate":1771103369625,"projectUrl":"project/rebuilding-pe-at-our-rural-school/10097547/","projectTitle":"Rebuilding P.E. at Our Rural School","teacherDisplayName":"Coach Thompson","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-9_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/10434816"},{"teacherId":8725818,"projectId":10099135,"letterContent":"Our students absolutely LOVED the new equipment, and it was such a joy to witness. From the moment it was introduced, their excitement was contagious. Smiles spread across their faces, laughter filled the air, and what started as curiosity quickly turned into hours of energetic play. They didn't just try it out for a few minutes—they played all afternoon. It was one of those rare, beautiful days where you look around and see nothing but engagement, movement, and pure happiness.\r\n\r\nWhat stood out the most was how active everyone was. Instead of drifting off or losing interest, the students stayed fully involved. They ran, jumped, competed, collaborated, and encouraged one another. It wasn't just about the equipment itself—it was about the experience it created. It gave them an opportunity to move their bodies, challenge themselves, and build friendships in an organic, joyful way. For many of them, this was more than just playtime. It was confidence-building. It was teamwork. It was freedom to simply be kids.\r\n\r\nEven more heartwarming was seeing our teachers join in. That was such a powerful moment. When teachers step into play alongside students, something special happens. Walls come down. Relationships strengthen. Laughter is shared. Our staff didn't just supervise—they participated. They ran alongside students, cheered them on, and in some cases, rediscovered their own inner child. Watching teachers and students interact in such a relaxed, happy setting reminded us all why these shared experiences matter so much.\r\n\r\nThe atmosphere throughout the afternoon was overwhelmingly positive. There were no complaints about boredom. No one asked to sit out. Students who don't always step forward were fully engaged. Some of our quieter kids were smiling and participating with enthusiasm. Others who usually struggle to stay focused were completely immersed in the activities. It created an inclusive environment where everyone found a way to join in.\r\n\r\nMoments like this remind us how important it is to provide opportunities for active play. Physical activity isn't just about exercise—it supports emotional well-being, social skills, and even academic focus. After an afternoon like this, you can see the difference. Students return to their classrooms happier, more relaxed, and ready to learn. The positive energy carries over.\r\n\r\nWe are truly grateful for the new equipment and the impact it has already made. It brought our school community together in a way that felt effortless and natural. The laughter, the teamwork, the friendly competition, and the shared joy made the entire afternoon memorable.\r\n\r\nThank you so much for making this possible. Your donations of tissues, disinfecting wipes and spray, hand sanitizing wipes, and writing supplies are making a meaningful difference every single day.\r\nFrom the very first day the supplies arrived, my students were excited. When they saw the fresh boxes of tissues and new containers of wipes, several students said, \"Now we won't have to worry about running out!\" It may seem like a small thing, but to them it meant comfort, security, and knowing their classroom is cared for. They were especially proud to help organize the new materials and set up a \"cleaning station\" that we now use daily.\r\nWe are using these resources constantly. Each morning, students wipe down shared desks and materials as part of our classroom routine. Before small group projects—like our recent collaborative writing activity—students use the hand sanitizing wipes to make sure everyone is ready to work together safely. During that project, students worked in teams to draft and revise opinion paragraphs. Because they had quality pens and the supplies they needed, they were able to focus fully on their writing instead of worrying about borrowing materials or running out of ink. The result? Thoughtful, creative pieces they were proud to share aloud.\r\nThe tissues have been especially helpful during cold and allergy season. Instead of disruptions or discomfort, students can quickly grab a tissue and return to learning. It keeps our classroom running smoothly and helps students stay focused and confident.\r\nWhen the materials first arrived, there was a real sense of relief and gratitude. My students understand that generous donors made this possible, and we talked about how kindness and community support help schools thrive. They were genuinely thankful.\r\nLooking ahead, we are beginning a research and presentation project where students will work in teams to explore community helpers and create informational posters. With our new cleaning supplies, we can safely share materials and work closely together. With dependable writing tools, students can draft, revise, and publish their work with pride. These essentials ensure that learning time is protected and productive.\r\nBecause of you, our classroom is not only cleaner and healthier—it's calmer, more prepared, and ready to learn each day. The weighted, microwavable Warmies plush animals are used daily by students who feel overwhelmed, anxious, or frustrated. One meaningful moment occurred when a student who was struggling to transition chose the Warmies penguin, sat quietly on the ottoman bench, and focused on slow breathing. After a few minutes, they calmly returned to the group and joined learning without adult intervention—a huge step toward independence and self-regulation.\r\n\r\nWhen the students first saw the new Calm Down Corner materials, they were immediately excited and curious. They eagerly explored the plush animals and were drawn to their warmth, weight, and softness. Many students hugged the Warmies and commented that they felt \"cozy,\" \"happy,\" or \"calm.\" Just as important, they quickly learned that this space is meant to help them feel better—not as a consequence, but as support.\r\n\r\nThe folding storage ottoman bench has helped transform the Calm Down Corner into an organized, inviting, and calming space. By keeping extra pillows and plush animals neatly stored while also providing soft seating, the area feels intentional and uncluttered. This organization has reduced overstimulation and helped students feel more in control of their environment.\r\n\r\nNext, we are using the Calm Down Corner as part of our social-emotional learning lessons. Students are learning to identify emotions, choose a calming strategy, and recognize when they are ready to return to learning. These tools are helping my students develop lifelong skills such as emotional awareness, self-regulation, and resilience.\r\n\r\nBecause of your generosity, my students now know that it is okay to pause, calm down, and try again. My students are using the marble runs, magnetic race tracks, and alphabet stampers daily during center time, small-group instruction, and STEM exploration, and the impact on their engagement and skill development has been incredible.\r\n\r\nOne of our favorite classroom moments happened during a STEM center when a small group of students worked together to design a marble run using the GraviTrax Junior Marble Run. At first, their marble kept getting stuck halfway down the track. Instead of giving up, they talked through what might be wrong, rebuilt their design, and tested again—cheering when the marble finally reached the bottom. This moment showed real growth in perseverance, problem-solving, and teamwork, and it was a powerful example of how play-based learning builds early engineering thinking.\r\n\r\nThe PicassoTiles Magnetic Race Car Track Set has become a hub for imaginative and collaborative play. Students design race tracks, experiment with slopes and turns, and test how fast their cars travel. I've seen students naturally use words like \"faster,\" \"longer,\" and \"higher,\" while negotiating roles and sharing materials. These activities are strengthening spatial reasoning, fine motor skills, and social-emotional development as students plan and build together.\r\n\r\nThe Alphabet Giant Stampers have transformed our literacy centers. Students eagerly choose letters to stamp their names, practice sight words, and match uppercase and lowercase pairs. One memorable moment was when a student who had been hesitant about writing proudly stamped her entire name and said, \"I did it all by myself!\" These hands-on tools have boosted confidence, improved letter recognition, and made early literacy joyful and accessible.\r\n\r\nWhen my students first saw the materials, their excitement was immediate and contagious. They clapped, pointed, and asked, \"Can we play now?\" Their enthusiasm quickly turned into focused, purposeful learning as they explored how each resource worked and how they could use it to build, create, and learn together.\r\n\r\nNext Steps:\r\nWe will continue expanding our STEM lessons by introducing design challenges with the marble runs and race tracks, such as building the longest path or the fastest track. Students will begin drawing simple plans before building to strengthen early engineering and pre-writing skills. The alphabet stampers will be integrated into word-building activities, phonics lessons, and storytelling centers, where students will stamp letters to create simple words and label their creations. Together, these resources are helping lay a strong foundation for kindergarten readiness through hands-on STEM, literacy, and motor skill development.\r\n\r\nThank you for helping transform play into powerful learning experiences for my students.","fullyFundedDate":1768535242787,"projectUrl":"project/from-marble-runs-to-letter-stamps-learn/10015371/","projectTitle":"From Marble Runs to Letter Stamps: Learning Through Play","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Wommack","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp7643853_orig.jpg?crop=910,910,x0,y18&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1747949461909","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/7643853"},{"teacherId":10053369,"projectId":10017478,"letterContent":"Since receiving these new resources, our classroom has become an even more joyful, balanced, and supportive learning environment. Students take turns following the light-up prompts, hopping, stretching, and working together to complete challenges. I've seen students who were once hesitant to participate become confident leaders, encouraging their classmates and celebrating each other's successes. This system has helped channel their natural energy into structured movement that builds coordination, listening skills, and teamwork.\r\n\r\nThe weighted stuffed animals have made a powerful difference during transitions and rest time. When students first saw them, their faces lit up with excitement, and many immediately hugged them close. Now, students independently choose a weighted plush when they need comfort or help calming their bodies. I've noticed fewer meltdowns, smoother transitions, and stronger self-regulation as students learn to recognize and manage their emotions.\r\n\r\nThe BRIO Cargo Railway Deluxe Train Set has become a hub for collaborative play. Students work together to design tracks, operate cranes, and move cargo, practicing problem-solving and communication. One memorable moment was when a small group rebuilt a broken track after discussing what went wrong and testing new ideas—true engineering in action. These experiences are strengthening fine motor skills, patience, and cooperation.\r\n\r\nThe Slumberkins Otter Kin and board books are now part of our social-emotional learning routine. Students love listening to the stories and connecting them to their own feelings and friendships. During circle time, several students have shared how they felt \"brave,\" \"sad,\" or \"happy,\" using language from the books. These gentle tools are helping them develop empathy, emotional awareness, and a sense of belonging.\r\n\r\nWhen my students first saw all the materials, their excitement was contagious.
