Every year many of our students struggle to sound out and spell words. Thanks to TikTok I have an idea on how to help my students out this year, in a fun and productive way. The pop it toy will be used when the student says the word, for example "jet". The student will say "jet" then say the sounds in jet, /j/, /e/, /t/. While saying each sound in jet the student will pop a bubble on the pop it toy. Next the teacher, me, will ask how many sounds there were. The student answers three and lays out three magnetic tiles in front of themselves. Next the student will say each sound again while writing the corresponding letter on a tile. Lastly the student will connect the tiles and see the correct spelling for the word jet. Children learn the best, when they think they are playing. Our 2nd graders will greatly enjoy this method of learning to sound out words and spell them. I can see their faces light up now. I truly believe this will help many of our students for many years to come.
