Our students are very excited to be reading chapter books. The books that I selected fit a wide range of students so that every child can have a chance to enjoy them. \r\n 2nd grade is a big transition year for reading. In kindergarten and first grade students are taught skills to decode text, sound words out and comprehend what they have read. In 2nd grade we continue building on those skills and we move our children into more challenging texts with less and less pictures. These chapter books are a wonderful mid point between picture books and tougher chapter books for our students. They still contain pictures to help get the important information across, they are high interest topics to keep the kids motivated in the reading and most importantly they give them confidence to take on those tougher chapter books in the near future.
