These students can feel overwhelmed with dense texts or traditional novels. The concise, poetic style of novels in verse is more inviting to even the most hesitant of my readers, and is allowing them to engage in powerful stories, as well as is fostering confidence. \r\n\r\nMy students are reading these in book clubs, allowing them to explore the deeper themes and emotions of the novels in verse together. The short chapters allow them to participate in discussions and thoughtful collaboration in analyzing and interpreting the text.
