Students actually had to build the cars and loved doing that, and then were able to see them run on hydrogen, which blew some minds! Originally, I imagined that they would be racing the cars, but they are trickier than I expected, so instead, they were challenged to get them through a course and across a finish line.\r\n\r\nThe students were able to see hydrogen power in action and learn about the pros and cons of hydrogen power. They loved the fact that water was the fuel, the fact that no pollutants were created in the process, and the side reaction creates oxygen that goes into the air. They also learned about the flammability of hydrogen gas...\r\n\r\nI'm hoping to store these for use for years to come - the fuel cells are apparently sensitive, but my PhD work was in polymers and I have created a storage tub with a salt solution that should keep the humidity level high enough for fuel cell storage!","fullyFundedDate":1776190253075,"projectUrl":"project/learning-about-energy-hydrogen-fuel/10183352/","projectTitle":"Learning about Energy - Hydrogen Fuel","teacherDisplayName":"Dr. Harris","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/272x272/tp5799718_272x272.jpg?width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1535838160765","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/5799718"},{"teacherId":4085723,"projectId":7054995,"letterContent":"On behalf of our educators and students, thank you so much for your generous support in funding new weather stations for our two St. Paul Public Schools campuses. Your donation provided the exact technology needed to transform our science curriculum from abstract textbook lessons into a hands-on, real-world investigation. Having professional-grade equipment on site generated immediate excitement among the students, turning daily weather observations into an engaging, interactive routine.\r\n\r\nBecause our campuses are located 12 miles apart, students were able to cross-reference data in real time and explore microclimates across the city. By tracking temperature, humidity, wind, and precipitation between the two sites, they gained a firsthand understanding of how local geography and urban design shape daily weather patterns. Comparing the two locations allowed them to directly observe the urban heat island effect, sparking thoughtful discussions on climate science, concrete coverage, canopy shade, and environmental justice right in their own neighborhoods.\r\n\r\nYour investment did more than just purchase hardware—it empowered young minds to think like meteorologists and environmental scientists. Throughout the day, these items served as more than just supplies—they served as a bridge to meaningful conversation. Dozens of students visited our booth to ask questions and learn about safer sex practices and STD/STI prevention. Having accessible, free, and inclusive health resources made it possible to meet students where they were, giving them the confidence and knowledge to prioritize their personal health in a safe, judgment-free space.\r\n\r\nYour support sent a powerful message to our youth that their well-being, identity, and safety matter deeply. Since I am working with striving readers, the graphic novels are of great help and interest.
