Your generous donations added over 50 new titles to our library and countless new oportunities for our students to read.\r\n\r\nThe goal of this project was to help our students understand what they can do to make their world a better place, and to read about characters who seek a better or more prosperous life in American society. Each of the titles have been checked out and loved by our students, and many are even making their way into class book clubs and extracurricular reading groups.\r\n\r\nBecause of the amazing donations from this project and others like it, we have been able to offer a vibrant and fantastic library for our students, helping them to learn and grow as citizens and human beings. Because we were able to add these titles to our library, the students at my school now have guaranteed access to books written at their level about the mental health challenges that they face each and every day. When I first submitted this project, our library nonfiction section was falling into disrepair and could not meet the needs of my students. But these books helped to create a new and vibrant nonfiction section within our library. Better yet, nonfiction books are being read by our students at a much higher rate since these books were added to the library collection. \r\n\r\nWith the addition of these nonfiction, real-life books, our nonfiction collection jumped from just over 10 percent of our regular book check outs to almost 15 percent! Just by giving students books that are at their level and engaging, you are changing lives. But that is doubly true with this project, which is encouraging students to learn more about their own mental health and to better undestand how their mental health and the mental health of others affects their lives.\r\n\r\nThe books in this project have made a dramatic impact in our library. Not only have they increased the circulation of our mental health section, but they have also decresed the average age of the books in that section. Before this project, most of the books we had dealing with mental health at a student reading level were written before most of our students were born. Now we have new, engaging reads that can help our students grow.","fullyFundedDate":1715261749019,"projectUrl":"project/reading-makes-you-think/8301888/","projectTitle":"Reading Makes You Think","teacherDisplayName":"Mr. Otte","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-10_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/8105859"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_48577","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":1228,"numTeachers":54,"percentFrplEligible":29,"percentAsian":11,"percentBlack":13,"percentWhite":58,"percentIndigenous":0,"percentLatinx":8,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","gradesServed":"6 - 8","studentTeacherRatio":"22.7:1","demographicsDataSource":"MDR School","equityFocus":false,"titleOne":false,"metroType":"SUBURBAN","ncesMetroType":"SUBURB_LARGE"},"inStateSupporters":84.0,"schoolId":48577,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about Scott Highlands Middle School on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"Scott Highlands Middle School","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/minnesota/rosemount-apple-vly-eagan-196/scott-highlands-middle-school/48577"}
