Students want to read about characters they can identify with. They are more engaged in reading when they feel a connection with the characters on the page. At the same time, our students love to read comics and graphic novels. These books offer a great chance to engage students in stories, ideas, and themes even if they struggle reading traditional novels. Unfortunately, our current graphic novel selection does not include many strong, authentic representations of LGBTQ+ characters. These books will help those students, who already feel outside and separate, find themselves in the books they love.
