The book titles purchased are all topics that discuss mental health, self-love, acceptance or kindness. Children are able to see themselves in these stories whether it be in the character's representation of cultural diversity or in the problem/solution of the plot. Feelings and emotions can be big and difficult to understand at a young age. Not only do the books address the tough topics, the books also provide strategies that can be utilized to assist. \r\n Some of the titles have been placed in the Peace Corner, which is an area in the classroom where students can go to calm or relax. Other titles are read to the entire class for cooperative discussion. Two of the titles are read exclusively one to one between a teacher and student during a resolution break-through.\r\n I look forward to adding new titles to the collection in the years to come.","fullyFundedDate":1750256081348,"projectUrl":"project/mental-health-literature/9418182/","projectTitle":"Mental Health Literature","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Tufto","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp6513392_orig.jpg?crop=1:1,smart&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1561667043875","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/6513392"},{"teacherId":6513392,"projectId":9055102,"letterContent":"Soft starts to our day and having cooperative play has enhanced our social skills greatly. I am a Grade 2 New Comer teacher this school year. I have 12 students who are new to the country, speaking seven different languages. There are 10 additional children who are considered neighborhood students; however, some of them are also multi-language students. Thus, we have eight languages total with English being one of them. Play has become a great teaching tool, as it has allowed friendships to form. Once friendships, trust and relationships were established it has lent itself to the academic world also. \r\n\r\nSeveral of the manipulatives are open exploration activities which has allowed children to use their imaginations to build together. The creative process has encouraged the friends to talk together as they explore and build. This communication is invaluable to their learning!
