The materials funded by your donation have helped to create a sensory space with a variety of items important in supporting a multitude of learners' sensory needs and preferences. The sensory room is open and accessible to all preschool and elementary school students, allowing for a multi-tiered support system for the school. Prior to your funding of materials, the sensory room did not have many opportunities for tactile sensory experiences; the sensory bin stimuli, especially when paired with a lightbox, allow for a new experience for students to fill their sensory break time. All items are now in the sensory room for student use. When first shown the new materials, the students were very excited and wanted to try the new supports as soon as they could! Changing up sensory resources is always important in promoting motivation and engagement, especially when using the sensory room on a daily basis. It has leveled the field when the little ones go to basketball camp. They can use the appropriate sized balls and be more successful at the game. You have also allowed us to continue the sport in our classroom. Giving everyone the opportunity to play basketball. The kids were sooo excited to see the balls come out of the box and to see that each one of them had one that fit their size. They loved the hoop and knowing during exploration time they could also do some gross motor activities. I have noticed huge changes in the students I work with. It has become quite obvious to me, that I need to find ways to offer opportunities that students wouldn't necessarily get on his/her own due to lack of money, education, time or desire. \r\n\r\nI know that students love to tinker and build. This is why I thought getting the Qubits and Dynamo lanterns would be useful tools. When I first showed students what we had been gifted from generous donors, either individually or from larger groups such as the Gates Foundation, they were in awe and overjoyed. \r\n\r\nWe began our journey by simply exploring the tools. Students are uninhibited and can easily discover how things work on their own. They quickly showed me their creativity! With this sense of wonder, I let them show each other what they had discovered. \r\n\r\nAs they continue to work with the tools, I will build in cooperative learning opportunities for them to build something I'm requesting. They've indicated the kits are great but want MORE parts to work with when constructing, so I have emptied the bags into one large container to help give opportunity for more creativity.
