We read a book about kites, we learned about the different parts of a kite, and students designed their own kites. Finally, they got to fly them! Some kids had flown a kite before, some had not. All of them had success and had fun!\r\n\r\nWhen students first got their own kite to design, they were so excited and grateful! They worked hard to color it in bright colors and fun patterns. They learned how to assemble them and how to use all the parts to fly successfully. Then, it was fly day.\r\n\r\nMany of my students have had tough journeys and difficult lives. Many of them are quiet and serious. On the day we flew kites, I saw unbridled joy and smiles on students I had barely seen smile all year. The act of flying a kite may seem so simple but the freedom and success they feel is unmatched. This was all possible because of YOU!
